All grain batch - add more water?

I will also add that many people routinely add water to top off. It's not that uncommon of a practice. If you decide to go that way, you may want to consider boiling it first to avoid any issues.

All grain batch - add more water?

I would not add more water and take the risk of contaminating the brew you have. Even a small risk of contamination is better avoided than taken. 4 gallons of uninfected beer is better than 5 gallons of infected beer. Did you hit your target gravity? Was it higher or lower than expected...

Green Apples - To dump or not dump

I have thought about re-pitching it with the idea being that you can't ruin garbage, right? I don;t know that it's a "green-beer" issue, other than maybe it just stalled out, but at the drop in gravity I have seen, and the consistency, I doubt that's it. I mean, I guess the worst I would be...

Green Apples - To dump or not dump

WLP530 White Labs Abbey Ale. I made a starter and it seemed to ferment rather well, dropping from 1.071 to 1.010. I'm beginning to suspect that I let it sit too long and that perhaps air got in somehow and the ethanol broke down. I think it's one to chalk up to experience and try to figure...

Green Apples - To dump or not dump

I have a belgian that has been in the primary for more than three months and has stopped fermenting. There is a strong green apple taste in the wort. Should I dump it, or repitch with some dry yeast and hope the yeast absorbs it? Will it?

Just say no to plastic spoons.

I have used this paddle many times myself without incident. It was definitely the stove, I've found drips of it on the counter. I wish could blame one too many homebrews, not even a drop today as I was brewing....maybe that was the problem?

Just say no to plastic spoons.

It was made for brewing, similar to this: http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/media/catalog/product/cache/3/image/245x245/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/7/3/7310.jpg Came in my first home brew kit several years ago. Probably not the best idea to use it as I was (obviously) but it only melted...

Just say no to plastic spoons.

The lesson of this post is to never, never, as in not even once again, use a plastic paddle to stir your boiling wort. Basic intuition to some, but it took me a completely wasted brew day to learn this simple lesson. Today was snowy, cold, and perfect day to brew. Started out with 17lbs of...
