    Is 10-Plate Chiller Enough?

I have the shirron plate chiller in the above post. Plate chillers are only effective as the temperature of the water going into it. In the Chicago winter months, I don't have any problems chilling down to ale temps in one pass. For lager temps, or Chicago summer months, I recirc for about...

    Infection in Stainless-Steel Conical

I would start from the discharge valve on your boil kettle and end with the keg (if you keg your beers). This includes hoses, chiller, gas & liquid posts. Dissemble the gas & liquid (especially the liquid) posts since crud can build up in there. I would soak the hoses in min 180 deg water...

Short life of keezers - failing too frequently

My last keezer lasted only 5 years, the compressor locked up. Operated at basement temperatures with an Inkbird set for 10 min restart time. A Pipefitter in the beer club who services industrial HVAC equipment told me that freezer compressors run louder when operating at temperatures above...

Can I fit a controller to my pump to adjust the flow rate?

Without knowing what type of pump motor that you have, the motors with a fan in the back are designed to run at full rated speed to allow adaquate airflow across the motor to keep it from overheating.

    garage brew space

No, I had that type but I replaced it since the heat shot up to the ceiling . The type I have now hangs from the ceiling.

Thanks for the photo, now I want to smoke one. What was your target internal temp on the prime rib roast?

    garage brew space

What no pictures of your garage brew space? I moved my brew space into my basement since I store my equipment down there and I got tired of hauling the equipment up/down the stairs. Normally the brew space is my basement kitchen, I slide the oven out and put my burner in place (both fueled by...

    Smoked prime rib

I have multiple Weber grills and a ceramic Vision grill, all charcoal/lump fueled. My favorite for smoking is my Weber Smokey Mountain, I have the 18" version which cost under $400. For "regular" grilling I use my Weber kettle grill, I even have a rotisserie attachement that I use for whole...

    Closed or Open Pressurized Transfer?

When I do a closed pressure transfer (one keg at a time), I cold crash so that I can see the "frost line" on the keg to see the fill level. A scale would be a subsitute to determine the fill level.

    Closed or Open Pressurized Transfer?

I made my own from parts laying around. It uses a Pall housing with a 6" bazooka screen. Bouncer in-line beer filters seem to be popular. Link

    Closed or Open Pressurized Transfer?

I use an inline filter for closed transfers from my Spike conical to corny kegs, which eliminated plugged poppets.

50 amp electric brewing panel OCPD

I believe that you are using 220V in your calculations, 240V is the nominal voltage (120V x 2). As doug293cz mentioned you can connect your pumps on opposite legs (assuming they are 120V) to balance out the current draw which should keep you below the 50A draw @240V with everything running...

50 amp electric brewing panel OCPD

You didn't state the watt of the heating elements or the size of the brew vessels, but I agree that both elements will not be on 100% for 3 hours. Regarding the 60 amp breaker panel, that requires an upsize in wire from the 50 amp panel. A consideration if the wire to the breaker panel is...

Bourbon barrel purchase worth it for home brewer?

It was worth it for me since I enjoy barrel aged beers. I used my 15 gallon barrel for 3 batches, now it is used as a table in my basement. For each fill you will need to age the beer in the barrel longer to extract the "barrel flavors". My first use I aged for 4 months, second use 6 months...

My exotic BIAB/ RIMS brewing system

By Bobby's definition a kettle RIMS is a 2 vessel system. " A kettle RIMS is a 2-vessel system that uses a dedicated Mash/Lauter tun and a dedicated Boil kettle. " I guess we will need to agree to disagree.

My exotic BIAB/ RIMS brewing system

Point taken except that Grain Father and Anvil do not call their systems RIMS. Since I'm older, it took me many years to accept the term "Classic Rock". I don't believe that the OP's system is a Kettle RIMS system, the pot on the side does not appear to be a dedicated boil kettle. What is a...
