An appeal to Northeast U.S. Homebrewers

Bobby's BrewHardware is a true diamond in the rough. I recently built a jockey box and sourced the majority of the hardware from Bobby. One of the main reasons is that he is passionate about his business, offers quality products as well as unique items not available elsewhere for a very fair...

Quick question re: duotight gas side

I have a gas manifold with MFL connections and did this: which left the check valves and shutoff intact. I'm not sure what it would take to change out the barbed connections with MFL.

Chest freezer died. Would like something front load

I usually do 1/2 batches with my CF-10 unless I'm doing a lager. Since I store my CF-10 in my upright freezer it reduces the amount of space needed for storage. I am spoiled with my Spike conical and can't see myself going back to my Spiedel fermenter.

Chest freezer died. Would like something front load

I would never kick my CF-10 to the curb for a "sexy" new freezer. Besides the width/depth considerations for fitting a CF-10 also consider the height as dry hopping requires a bit more height.

    New Fermenter Shopping

I have an older Spike CF10 conical used in conjunction with a used $200 upright freezer controlled by a wi-fi inkbird temperature controller. I have no regrets with my setup as I store my conical inside the freezer when not in use to take advantage of the realastate that the freezer takes up. As...

    How is this crush?

My guess is that Spike is marketing the BIAB homebrewer as to why they went with shredding the husks. I still use my 3-roller (non-geared) mill for my fly sparging method of brewing. I am leary about geared roller mills for fear of a non crushable object (small pebble) getting through and...

recommend me a new smoker please .

I also have the 18" WSM and I prefer the results (smoked ribs) over my ceramic grill (Vision Grill). My thought is that the water pan helps with the meat retaining moisture. I bought the Billows mainly for use with my ceramic grill and tried it with the WSM, I verified that the WSM does not...

Anyone use RIMS with a Cooler MLT?

I use a bazooka screen in the bottom of my MLT, I also have a rectangular cooler (with a bazooka screen) that I used for high gravity batches, which I haven't needed since upgrading to a 15 gallon MLT, with success. WIth receipes using flaked oats or wheat, I use rice hulls to prevent stuck...

Anyone use RIMS with a Cooler MLT?

Going back to your original post about using a RIMS with a cooler MLT, below are some photos of my original MLT (10 gallon Home Depot) and my current MLT (15 gallon Megapot) that I have been using sucessfully for years. I installed a thermowell in the MLT with a spare inkbird to display the...

Anyone use RIMS with a Cooler MLT?

Correct, that is how I do it. For piece of mind I start my pump with the heating element off until the temperature in the mash tun stabilizes and then turn on the heating element. On the flip side I shut off the heating element and let the pump run for another 5 minutes to help prevent...

Anyone use RIMS with a Cooler MLT?

I have that setup and I can maintain my mash temps within 1 deg. F. I started out using a cooler mash tun but recently upgraded to a SS mash tun. The advantage is that the RIMs is independent of my other brewing equipement allowing for equipment upgrades while maintaining the RIMS. The...

    Upgrade fermenter help please

I forgot to mention one important detail, I have been married for over 35 years so asking for forgivness afterwards is much safer than someone married for a shorter amount of time. Room for setup and storage is an important consideration, since you are looking at a gycol system consideration for...

    Upgrade fermenter help please

When I bought my CF-10, I opted to ask for forgivness later as opposed to ask my wife for permission beforehand. I'm still glad I purchased it as it has proven to be a quality fermenter.

    Upgrade fermenter help please

That is the older CF10 which is designed for 10 gallon batches, hence capable of holding 13 gallons. I have that model and spent around $700 without the gycol stuff, I use a dedicated upright freezer for temp control with a inkbird probe in the thermowell. I like my Spike conical, no...

    RO Water TDS

I feel that Gordon is great at recreating a receipe based on a classic beer that he has had. I brewed his replication of U Flek Czeck Dark Larger that I received a 48 from a National beer judge at a local competition. The only deviation I did was a kettle mash instead of a decoction.

Going from Natural Gas to Propane

Besides changing the orfice (as you have done) I find that I need to readjust the air damper on my burner between the two gases. For my burner the red line is natural gas and the black line is propane. The adjustment was made visually by obtaining a blue flame. I normally run on natural gas...

Advice on how to enjoy homebrewing over the years without becoming an alcoholic.

I spend a total of 8 hours brewing beer, most of the time is spent prepping, setup and cleaning. I am in no hurry to empty a keg of beer due to the amount of time spent brewing it. Similar to cleaning, you want it to stay clean for a little while at least. Now that I am getting older with...

    Stout Faucet Repair

Did your Taprite stout faucet work after the cleaning and afterwards you installed the gaskets/o-rings from the rebuild kit? Any long term issues with your Micromatic stout faucet? It seams like a "regular" cleaning schedule for stout faucets is needed.

How did I do for this CO2 tank

Same for me as long as the tank looks like an Airgas tank. A member of the beer club walked in with a 20# Coke CO2 tank (it was painted red) that has been expired for many years. Airgas charged him for a recertification fee which was cheaper than buying a "new" tank from Airgas.
