What's your general cleaning/sanitizing procedure (and for bottles)?

I've bottled about 65 batches now. My process is rinse out bottle right after pouring (or at least by next day) with very hot water. I rinse out 3-4 times, set aside and a bit later pour out any residual water, store in closed case. At bottling time I fill bottles with star San about 10 of them...

Grainfather mash tun questions - standpipe and mash screen ?

The extender piece I use all the time except on 1/2 batches. They do now have a smaller extender which folks who use them like. I haven't yet. For best results I stick with GF mash ratio, though I will be doing a no sparge on a low OG batch soon. Top plate (screen) helps to recirc thru the whole...

    Grainfather!!

That will push MSRP on GF to +1k. With that new mash and boil out at 300 (no pump, no CFC), they better hope folks don't like the M&B, which has a time delay built in. A pump and CFC build for 2-300 is reasonable. At any rate I will be looking for reviews on this here!

    Grainfather!!

I'm beginning to think it's the pump not filter that's at issue. I wouldn't mind one a bit stronger but with my hop basket (and no concern with utilization) it runs only a bit slower than when recirc for mash or cleaning. Checked my cereal killer and was surprised I'm closer to 40. I do get...

    Grainfather!!

Holy crap, you must be taking a long time to cool, no?? After about 5-10sec of recirc with cold water on, the outlet hose goes right into my conical. Last time, with my tap temp at a chilly 49F, I dialed back the cooling water flow rate big time, as at 1/2 way it was chilling the wort down to...

Propane to Electric w/ cooler mash tuns

That's a lot right there! :) On location- the "dungeon" doesn't sound inviting! Maybe you can make a nice go of it? If so, the main concern first is to ensure proper ventilation. Garage is nice, but 50% loss is a big commitment to brewing, if no big deal I still like that over the dungeon, if...

    Dry hopping with pellet hops?

I don't secondary, I do use a SS conical, and I've really enjoyed the NEIPA approach of dry hopping During active fermentation (~3days in).

Propane to Electric w/ cooler mash tuns

If you have a nice dedicated area, basement, garage, brew shed, then you can make this really nice and you won't care much about one location brewing I'd bet. Though that's one of the great aspects of a brew shed, open it up on nice sunny days. Did you pick a place yet to brew? Whatever you...

Propane to Electric w/ cooler mash tuns

This is essentially what I was thinking about some 14mos ago or so now. I was brewing 5-6g batches with single kettle and single MLT (not sure why you use a MTL and a sparge cooler? I would mash, vorlauf, drain into kettle and repeat for the sparge process, batch sparge style). My plan was to...

    Obnoxious Football Trash Talk Thread

Good points Pat fans on Brady / team. Realistically I'm hoping 2017 brings a big downgrade in his game. Tired of this. Tired.

ha-ha!! And neither do I. But, wonder when they realize it will be time for FAB- football after Brady. And seriously interested in their thoughts.

    Brewers Edge Mash & Boil

The idea is that everyone has 110v in their kitchen, on their deck etc. in the US & Canada. Both this and the GF (which I own) use that as an advantage instead of 220v. Ideally you plug into a 20a circuit, but it will run on 15a as well (at 1600w its pushing the amperage). I keep looking out for...

    Homebrewing and Bodybuilding/Fitness

Yeah I do like trail runs, they are a bit kinder to the knees, not to mention way more fun and challenging. Still limit my distance / time. If I'm mtn biking single track (mostly) and its a limited visibility trail, I tend to use that before and/or after vegetation growth limits the...

    Obnoxious Football Trash Talk Thread

Hey Pats fans, I know this thread is mostly bluster, comebacks and the like, but serious questions here..., if you can hold off on the snarky comments for a moment :) Garapolo (sp?) is due a new contract this year, Brady is turning 40 and still playing at a high level, so if you put on your...

    Homebrewing and Bodybuilding/Fitness

All of you above piss me off!! :D I cap my runs to about 5 mi, else I get knee pain. I've run 2 marathons, and many half and other distances, so now its hang up the longer ones, besides switching to biking more.. Exactly! My avg ride (with longer daylight especially) is 2.5hrs. Longer...

    Dry hopping with pellet hops?

Just dry hopped tonight with pellets (in sanitized paint strainer bags) in my two brew bucket minis, same beer, different yeast.

    Fermwrap on SS conical?

I use the same cord as milldoggy just linked above and it works great. I have a 7g SS Brewtech conical and it has always worked fine, I'd get the longer 50 watt version for your larger conical. Also using mine on my 2 new mini brew buckets, working great! OH caveat, my ferm chamber is in the...

    Homebrewing and Bodybuilding/Fitness

I still work out often, but now 52 and with torn labrums in both shoulders this year is about staying healthy and building up the supporting muscle around my shoulders. My desire is to keep in shape (doing well) so I can take on all my physical hobbies- road biking (occasional mtn biking and...

    Grainfather!!

Good list, and I see you've read here well (taking out the ball and spring)! As for the CFC I put mine on a stool, besides avoiding your issue, I never understood why to keep a lid on when trying to cool. I guess it seems compact, but you've explained the flaw well. All in though, sounds like it...
