How to Toast Flaked Oats - a Video Tutorial

I had a lot of fun making this one. Yes, there is a bit of kid noise in the background... I'm Homebrew Dad for a reason. I edited out the three year old spilling the oats as he helped me turn them... of course, I also edited out me spilling the oats as I poured them onto the pan. :)...

    DIY Universal Heating Element

One of our community members put together a pretty nice little guide for crafting a DIY electric heating element. Hopefully, it will be a useful post.

    HomebrewDad.com is changing domain names

lol @ domain. Nope, this is an early warning (we haven't moved yet). We just closed voting last night. The domain is purchased (I had actually gone ahead and bought our top two options in case some jerk of a cybersquatter tried to steal them), but we still need to design a new logo, give...

    HomebrewDad.com is changing domain names

Thanks, I agree, it does have a nice ring. The old name was certainly not chauvinistic - it was created to describe one homebrewing dad's blog. However, the site is no longer just that. I will keep the name for my personal blog posts, but the site as a whole will change.

    HomebrewDad.com is changing domain names

That actually happened a month or so ago. For obvious reasons, I did not advertise that here - I'm not looking to poach membership. I will continue to blog, and have opened up the site to allow others to do the same (you may have notice that I've posted a couple of links to blogs others...

    HomebrewDad.com is changing domain names

tl;dr - you don't need to update your links to the various HomebrewDad.com calculators just yet, but a decision has been made to change the name of the site to something more inclusive, more representative of the idea of a broad community (as opposed to one guy's blog). That domain name will...

    Homebrewing Needs a Woman's Touch

Hello, if I came across as snarky, I apologize. I was legitimately asking for your feedback, and why you got the vibe that you did. I'm not going to go line by line for your response, but I AM going to thank you for taking the time to share your insights and criticisms. I really was asking...

    Homebrewing Needs a Woman's Touch

Thanks. I had started to make responses to some other posts, but really, that just makes me look childish. I do appreciate you noting the distinction.

    Homebrewing Needs a Woman's Touch

Okay, cool. So, I'm legitimately asking for feedback, as I clearly failed at communication here. What did I say to make you think I was generalizing all men as sexist trolls or whatnot? Because, hey - it would be cool for posterity to make it read better.

    Homebrewing Needs a Woman's Touch

So, as I did earlier with another poster, I'm going to ask that you show me where I did this. This was absolutely not my intention. I offered an opinion based on some observations. I never intended to paint every man with the same brush (I'd be painting myself, no?). If I did, and I'm...

    Homebrewing Needs a Woman's Touch

Can you please quote where I said this? Because if I did, that was never my intention, and I will edit and post a retraction. I did say that the culture seems to be very much of a boys' club. I did say that we seem to take the "small group of buddies" mentality and apply it to the hobby...

    Homebrewing Needs a Woman's Touch

Nah, poking the bear isn't. I think that it's pretty obvious that yes, I was mocked in multiple places in this thread, but that's okay. I certainly did not mean to misrepresent. Some on reddit agreed, some disagreed. As for the Brewing Network - do notice that I never once named ANY...

    Homebrewing Needs a Woman's Touch

I'm active on other online venues, and have read complaints, and have seen the misogyny firsthand. My own personal feelings about what I've heard in some ads and programming. Reports of how some people have been treated in their LHBS, etc. I'm not suggesting for a moment that less women...

    Homebrewing Needs a Woman's Touch

Growl and all of that. ;) Seriously - thanks to all of you who participated in the discussion, even if you happen to think that I'm a complete nutbag. Props to the HBT community for being the antithesis of the problem I present, though I might hold that mocking me personally doesn't change...

    Homebrewing Needs a Woman's Touch

What you have proven is that today's active posters on HBT disagree with my premise. The reddit discussion on this is a lot more split - with (gasp) actual women saying things like "I have seen/lived this this myself" (also, at least one who, like Hello here, disagrees). Then, there are...

    Homebrewing Needs a Woman's Touch

Welp, I just got caught up on 12 pages of mostly nonsense that was posted since I last checked in. So... in summation, this thread sparked some serious discussion, got totally derailed, then ran off into Sillyville. I'm going to call that a success.

    Homebrewing Needs a Woman's Touch

Sorry to not respond individually to every post - this thing has blown up in a MAJOR way. Most stuff I link gets a handful of comments, if that... I wasn't prepared to, er, "borrow" enough company time to respond properly. Thanks to everyone for the conversation, whether you agree, disagree...
