    Area with the most breweries?

After reading an article in the local paper in Bend, OR, I was wondering what area has the most breweries. I am told that we have 12 with another 6 in some stage of construction and several more in the application phase. It is possible to take a walking tour that includes most of them. The...

Newly Upgraded Brewer - Equipment Concerns

I just purchased a spigot for a bucket that I already had. I drilled a 1 in. hole and it was tight, but I was able o screw it in. I used one gasket on the inside and one on the outside without leaks.

    Started my first batch

I used the ice bath for my first brew. It worked ok. For the second, built a simple immersion chiller the plans shared here in the forum. It was an easy build and cooled the wort in half the time, of course it helps have 45 degree water coming out of the tap.

DIY Wort Chiller- Any Real Savings?

I bought the parts at Lowes also. To me, it is not about the cost savings. Just like brewing the beer, it is about the satisfaction knowing that you made it. This was also the easiest project I have assembled and it saved about $20 over the exact same item at my LHBS.

    DIY Heated Fermentation Chamber

Thanks for posting this. I have been using a space heater in a bathroom and would love to keep everything in the spare bedroom. I can't wait to give it a try. I'm even wondering about building a shelf above the fermenters for conditioning the bottled brew.

Can someone help me figure this out?

Just took one reading from the floor and another from about 6 ft.. This is a small room, probably 10' x 6' with an 9' ceiling. The floor was 65 and it was 75 up 6 ft.. Plenty of variation for different purposes. I want to take it over completely, but SWMBO thinks it needs to remain a restroom.

Can someone help me figure this out?

I have just bottled my first batch and decided to keep it in a small bathroom with a temperature controlled space heater. Not trusting the heater's thermometer, I placed another thermometer in the room. The temperature reading was several degrees different on the floor( with the bottles) than...

cover kettle for last 15-20min of boil

An advantage of keeping the pot covered is keeping the condensation from your range hood out of your brew.

    Possible infection?

Just to make sure the test is thorough, you should send another 6 here. If you did this with 4 others, you would probably have some fairly accurate results.

    Range Hood Condensation

This must have been discussed before, but I didn't realize the problem existed until I was boiling an AG on the stove. I had read about leaving the lid off, but I soon noticed the water droplets getting ready to to swan dive into my new masterpiece. I placed the lid on to cover their landing...

    Bottled vs Draft

Has anyone tried their own brew bottled vs keg on the same batch and was there a difference in taste?

    Bottled vs Draft

On my last trip to Seattle I enjoyed the Alaskan Amber that was served everywhere, so I bought some bottles when I got home. It doesn't seem to taste the same as I remember. Is it just me or is there something different about the bottled batches?
