    Letting Bull shoots grow

I am bit shocked at the moment. I planted a Saaz rhizome 3 yrs ago and as mentioned earlier it has been a failure. Last year it sprouted back up and died. I basically accepted that a Saaz plant isnt gonna make in my area. This year while trimming back my Nugget and Cascade I discovered a hop...

    Longtime beer drinker, newbie brewer

Welcome to the madness we call a hobby, from Alabama. Sounds like you are off to a good start. Since you have a SS Conical, I suggest you try fermenting under pressure. Doing so provides you with a couple of benifits. 1st your beer is carbonated once fermentation is complete. 2nd you can use...

    Duotight regulator board question

@JohnDBrewer the check valve looks like the typical inline coupling. But they are about a half inch longer than a coupling. They also have an arrow on them to indicate the direction of flow.

Welcome from Alabama. Meads always improves with age. Additionally IMO the best clarifying agent is to simply cold crash it in a refrigerator. A month or more aging/cold crashing will definately result in a clearer smoother tasting mead.

    Duotight regulator board question

I purchased the 6 port Duotight regulator board with valves. In the instruction picture they have the Ts at top, then the valve before the regulator and finally the check vavle. All connections are shown as about 3 inches. Then on the keg side you are to use the necessary lenght of line to reach...

What I did for beer today

Sounds like several of us are brewing wits.. Today I decided which keg I will use for the first cold crash keg for my Old Glory American Wheat clone. It will first go into an AB sixtel for a week. Then I'll transfer it again this time into a beautiful Good People sixtel as it will be on display...

What I did for beer today

Today i put the Old Glory clone in the fridge to cold crash. It fermented at 68* for 4 days at 10 psi. Very little activity in the blow off so I will let it cold crash and clear 3 days before transferring it to a keg. This keg will serve as an extended cold crash clearing period for a full week...

Long time reader, First time poster

@LiamRick you are progressing very well. And welcome to the madness we call a hobby. To answer your question, you are doing it right. Temperature control is one of the most important task in brewing. When you ferment with controlled temperature, ie your reperposed fridge, and maintain an oxygen...

Replacement tube for floating dip tubes

You are correct about the float getting stuck on the sides of the fermenter. I simply put two ss clamps let un-tight on the tube and let them slide freely on the tube. Works perfectly. Your suggestion of using washers or nuts does the same. Hopefully anyone experiencing this issue will see these...

Yesterday i brewed a 5 gallon clone batch of @Sammy86 's Old Glory American Ale. I brewed a batch of this beer last year for my Fathers Day Reunion and it was all consumed by days end. It was a big success and I had request to do it again this year.
