o rings for pin lock QD's

I lost one down the drain and without it the beer leaked out. I went to the hardware store and replaced it with a regular round O-ring and had no issues with it.

Raise Your Hand If Your Wife Or Husband Is Responsible For Getting You Into Brewing

Can't remember exactly what I said to my wife but it was something like -I wonder how hard it is to make your own beer-and she told me why don't you try- now I brew quite a bit and she is there most of the time with me. Hand raised

I think its time for a nitro set up i have questions

I have a nitro tap and love it. I don't know all the ins and outs about it but I do really enjoy my beers on nitro. I carb mine with co2 to around 1 to 1.2 volumes. I've tried beers that were carbed more than that and they were just to foamy. A lot of good info posted here about it though...

Should I start making wine too?

I'm not a big wine drinker but my family and my wife's friends are. So I figured I would give it a try. I made 10 gallons have to bottle it yet. But my plan is to make about 10 gallons every year just to have around for company and to pass out. I have a good friend who has been making wine for...

What is the most unique beer you've made so far?

I made a Belgian cranberry ale. Just bottled it a week ago sampled it then and thought it tasted really good. See how it is in a few weeks. Also made a chocolate-chocolate habanero porter that is a pretty big hit if you like that kinda thing.

Please Share Your Priming Sugar Method

I don't chill mine just dump it into the bucket. I rack using an auto siphon with about 3 ft of hose and on the end is an old racking cane that broke at the bend.(put a clean cut on it) I start with the bucket tilted to keep the end of the cane under the priming solution then once enough is in...

    changing my cooling method

Agee with the no chill method. Like the others said you may have to do some recipe adjusting but if you use one you used before and liked it won't turn out bad. I just put the lid on with a thermometer in it and cover it with plastic wrap. Set it on my porch till its at pitching temp.

Just did my 1st brew ever - Partial Mash

Looks like your off to a good start. I would say just skip the secondary leave it in your primary til you are ready to bottle or keg. One thing I will say about the directions you get take them as tips or guidelines. There are many different ways to go about brewing. Some things work better...

Brewing setup question for busy dads

I do stove top BIAB very easy even if it's just me and my two boys 3 and 2 yrs old. I also have a 3 vessel HERMS system which can be a bit trickier if I have the kids. I usually only use the HERMS if the wife is around and the weather is decent outside. This way she can help with the kids. Plus...

immersion vs. plate chiller - I've only ever used immersion

I've used both I like the plate chiller a bit more mainly cause it is built into my system. As far as cleaning I don't think it's a big deal. I pump cleaner and rinse water through it. Then between brews I just throw it in the oven when cooking dinner. Plus I do 10 gallon batches and it's way...

    Flow rate using HERMs

I usually start off a bit slow then work it up to full flow. Only had issues once when I was doing a pumpkin beer I kept getting pluggage issues but for the most part full flow for me.

    Biab

I do both BIAB and have a 3 vessel HERMS system. I like using them both. The BIAB is nice in the winter I can brew inside. My HERMS system I can make up to 13 gallon batches were my BIAB is limited to 6 max. If I was starting from scratch I would go with BIAB and then advance off of that if...

    BIAB Process with Small Kettle

I use the no chill method. For my 5 gallon batches it takes about 20 hours to get into the 60's when the temp is in the 30's outside.

Dry hopping in primary or secondary?

What I don't do is use a secondary because I think I have to. I use them if I need to move beer out of primaries, maybe split a ten gallon batch and add different ingredients to get two different beers. But if I have no reason to move it I leave it. I dry hop, add fruit and do other...

    question about no chill brewing

I chill mine overnight quite a bit. I don't add anything, just cover it in plastic wrap with the thermometer in it so I can read the temp without disturbing it. I cover as soon as the boil is done and for the last 10 mins of the boil I have the lid on partially and rotate it so the steam will...
