    Carbing In A Growler

Wow. I heard back from Northern Brewer much faster than I thought I would. First my email to them, then their response: So there's that. At least with this specific growler, natural carbing and bottle conditioning is fine. Glad I asked. I was a little concerned after reading this thread.

    Carbing In A Growler

Like I said, I never thought about the relative strength of the glass itself. I've never had a problem with over carbing before while bottle conditioning. But this thread has me a little concerned. So I emailed Northern Brewer to get more specifics from them or from the manufacturer of the...

Ruined a good IPA by dry hopping?

Not a totally lost cause since you learned something. Now you know what your beer tastes like before it's properly conditioned. and at least you didn't try to serve it to any friends.

    Carbing In A Growler

I got this one from NB for Christmas: http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewing/brewing-equipment/bottling/bottles/2-liter-growler-romantic-handle.html I didn't even hesitate to bottle and natural carb in it. Been sitting in the basement for a little over 3 weeks now. Haven't had an issue. That...

Thoughts on moving pail or carboy during fermentation?

That's one of the reasons I use whiskey in my airlocks. No bugs are going to grow in that, so a little suck back won't hurt anything.

    Anyone successful with peanut butter?

What about gently heating the powder/vodka/water mixture to cook off the alcohol after the mix is sanitized? Let it cool and then add. Might not remove all the vodka, but should take a bite out of it.

    beer and intestinal gas

Oh dear god, sometimes if I drink a large beer too early, my *ss sounds like an angry dog barking. I find it hilarious. My wife? Not so much. Not all tools in homebrewing are scientific.

Getting my foot in the door, from across the street.

Can't speak of brewing specifically, but more to looking for a job in general. Given the current state of the U.S. and pretty much global economy, finding a job is hard. Had buddy in the Midwest who wanted to get a job in Hawaii. He had to move to Hawaii first just to get someone to answer his...

    cold fermentation please help!

I didn't want to open the bucket and risk contamination. So I swirled the bucket around a bit. I left my SG sample in the tube with my hydrometer for a few hours and it started fermenting away. That sample is at 70 degrees though. Bucket is at 59. So I'm pretty positive fermentation will take...

    Vienna Lager Fermentation wont start

This is just about the same question I had. Stalled lager - will move to slightly warmer temp to get it going, then take it back down. I'll ad my thanks along with the OP.

    cold fermentation please help!

Just to follow up on this thread and to get a little help: I pitched a lager at 60 degrees (the most I could cool it in my house) and then put in the fridge. Warmest I can get the fridge (with normal fridge controls, no external thermometers) is 50 degrees. Lager sat in the fridge at 50 degrees...

note to self... autumn amber ale does NOT age well

Did you notice anything unusual floating in the bottle or in the beer once poured? Stringy trails?

Can someone help me with my water?

I've never used campden tablets. I run my tap through the carbon filter on my fridge. I tried calling the Sharon, MA water department on my lunch break since I had nothing better to do. Seems they were on lunch break too. Left a message, never heard back. And as for those Ward Lab prices...

Can someone help me with my water?

Your water looks fine. From the report you linked, that's not the full analytical report. You can get the full report from the water department or at the city library. Call the water department and ask if they can email you a full copy. I do that in my line of work all the time. They should be...

New experiment with adding fruit to a recipe.

Just made a recipe where I added a pound of apples to an APA. Pealed, cored, and quartered the apples. Froze them to help break down cellular tissue. On brew day, I let the apples sit out and thaw (thew really turn to mush) and I threw them in a processor with about a half cup of water. Poured...

My beer came out watery? what happened

I made a similar holiday spiced brew. Left mine in secondary for a month. It's been bottled for two weeks now. I had one last night just to see how it's going. It definitely needs to sit longer. I'll probably try one in another two weeks.

    Open Fire Boiling

For the people that have done this, how hard was it to control/maintain temperatures? Did you just get a big bed of coals and raise/lower pot as necessary? Then add wood chips to the coals for smoke flavor? I've thought about a little liquid smoke or adding charred wood chips to the secondary...

German beer recipe with white radishes?

Well I had to ruin part of the surprise to get some information from my father. With that info and with the help of Ron Pattinson of http://www.europeanbeerguide.net/ and http://barclayperkins.blogspot.com/, we were able to figure out that my father was drinking a pilsner called Löwen-pils from...

    I like Natural Light.

No love for the Mickey's? Those little puzzles on the hand grenade caps always make want to have just one more. But I also enjoyed a good 40 of Magnum, Old English, or whatever was cheap. If you're going to go cheap, might as well do it right. But for a good low country seafood boil, have to...
