Maybe it has something to do with the density of the beer in comparison to water. Due to the beer being more dense then water, the yeast wouldn't settle out as quickly... Totally just thinking about this to myself, so it could be a wrong. =)

Awesome to hear!!! I brewed with a buddy recently who had pumps and that is what sparked my wanting for a pump. Can you provide any more info on how you wired the box with all the switches and whatnot. Thanks for the quick reply!

I just recently found these buckets... and you can get Gamma lids from HD.

Finally picked my first sack today! 55# for $40... Food grade Lowes buckets with gamma lids.

You can put a 3/4 PVC elbow onto the threads from the spigot to create dip tube. After adding that I only leave a few ounces left in the bucket. Check out the bottling "sticky" and there is a ton of pics an info.

I drove around shopping centers scoping out the back looking for buckets and even spoke with different restaurants around here. No one would give me a bucket... Some restaurants were worried about the health department and others used all there left over buckets for things. I was expecting to...

Just wanted to update everyone on my batch... It turned out great! I had a little mishap with the priming sugar because the carboy I used was not marked and I underestimated how much was in there. Oops! It ended up carbing up great after 4+ weeks and the lime flavor was perfect. Not too strong...

Awesome!!! I was going to buy just the regular buckets for bulk grain storage, but if food grade is avalable then thats what I am getting. I also need a few more buckets for santizing and soaking bottles.

After reading al ittle about Lowe's having food safe buckets, I found these on there website. They say they are food safe... I called my local store and they have 50+ in stock. Lowes White Polyethylene Buckets Has anyone here used these white buckets from Lowes?

Where are the food grade ones located within Home Depot (which department)? I have looked a few times and have never been able to find them... I need to get a few buckets for various brewing tasks and would rather have the "food grade" ones, if they are available.

Great thread... I'm a poor grad student that has been brewing for years, but have been humoring the idea of trying a one gallon jug of mead.

Let me throw out another option... How about the 16oz bottles? I have been thinking about starting to use 16oz bottles. I brew 3 galling due to apartment restrictions and have been using 12oz bottles typically. I hesitate using the 22oz bottles because I would just get angry at the small amount...

I really like the small side table and dig the idea of an umbrella holder. There have been way too many of times where it starts to rain and I rig up some unsafe way to keep the UDS dry. Hahaaaa...

A buddy and myself are having a brew day and were thinking of doing a Scottish Ale. I was looking over the NB kits and found this one as part of there pro series kits. I was looking over the hop schedule and see that it says 3oz of hops at 10min. This seems like a lot to me, is this correct...
