Imperial Stout Russian Imperial Stout (2011 HBT Competition Category Winner)

Made this today. Missed my og. At 1.088. I anticipated more boil off, so we ended up with close to 8 gallons instead of 6 at the end. More beer, how could that be bad?

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

I don't see any capacitors on your board. You should place a cap at the power inputs to the lcd, and the ic. A 1uf cap between 5vdc and neg. The 9 volt supply for the Arduino will help as well, but won't keep the display from scrambling. Another top I read was to use a star configuration...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

I used a plastic wire clamp and a nylon standoff to keep it separated from the wall.

Interesting all of these issues followed the update to brew pi recently uploaded. Are you guys installing the legacy fork?

    How To: BrewPi LCD Add-On

There are tons of references to this issue throughout this thread. I personally discovered that mine scrambles when the compressor on. So I added a capacitor to the power input on the uno which solved that for me.

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Elkoe I entered the --ask command and received a no such file or directory error. pi@raspberrypi ~ $ sudo python updater.py --ask python: can't open file 'updater.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory Never mind. I needed to change to the brewpi-tools directory. But I don't see a legacy...

    Harvesting Bell's Yeast

Buttery flavor is an indication of diasityl. Probably need to let your beer sit on the yeast a little longer.

using cocoa nibs and vanilla beans

Don't strain! The chocolate flavor will be in the vodka. You need to the liquid as well as the nibs. Just dump the whole lot in.

    FastFerment conical

I would suggest dumping sanitizer through the valve instead of tipping. I don't use the bracket, instead I use the small stand inside my fermenting fridge. I just carry the filled fermenter with the stand. Same as I do with filled carboys. Maybe I can use the brackets on a two wheeled...

How did you re load? Did you install a fresh image from the depository? If so you might have changed from the old image to the new one. See if this helps. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showpost.php?p=7158680&postcount=4094

    How To: BrewPi LCD Add-On

So, not being able to determine where the short was I decided to try again with new components. During the test I noticed the display scramble when the keezer compressor kicked on. I grabbed a 2.2uf 160 V cap I had and soldered it onto the uno's power jack. That seems to have taken care...

    How To: BrewPi LCD Add-On

Now the led on the UNO will start to fliker rapidly during burn in. It will function normally for 15, 20 minutes. When is normal I have 5 VDC on my output. Then when it fails the voltage fluctuates, as if there is a device shorting to ground. I wonder could it be one of the caps failing...

    How To: BrewPi LCD Add-On

I double checked my connections, and sure enough I had a bad connection to the ground buss. Now I have a working encoder. Which occasionally scrambles the display. But it's progress. Thanks for your help.

    How To: BrewPi LCD Add-On

I used the caps on the encoder switch and encoder wires. between them and ground. Without the pullups indicated on your drawing. And connected the 5vdc and ground directly to the encoder board. I'm going to try without the caps next.
