    Mashing Rye

I'm brewing a Rye APA tomorrow morning. I surfed around and found the gelatinization temp rang; but what is the required time/duration for gelatinization to complete. I'm debating if I need to cook it or just do an extended mash? With other adjuncts in the past, I just mashed until I hit the...

making a suedo torpedo, how to?

I torpedo all of my hoppy ales now. I use a march pump and a whole house water filter (Fleet Farm $15). I started with a Hop Rocket, but the whole house filter allows more hops to fit inside. The clear housing allows me to see how the whole hops clear (filter) the beer. I use a keg to push star...

    Re-glueing corny rubber handles

I have used Gorilla Glue before and it worked great. Why did you apply some water? I know water will thin it, but I don't see how that would be advantageous?

    Re-glueing corny rubber handles

Yes I searched, glue +corny +handle = nothing. Can anyone recommend a glue to reattach the rubber handle to a corny? Hopefully someone who has been down this road can chime in?

    breweries in Wisconsin

Oso in Stevens Point, they have 40 Wisconsin beers on tap and a homebrew shop next door. Lake Front in Milwaukee is great; you will never experience a more funny brewery tour. +100 on New Glarus; do the hard hat tour on Fridays. Its $18 and you will need to make an appointment, but the tours are...

    Thermal grease needed?

Thermal grease will help even if the "fit" is snug. The grease will increase sens accuracy and lower response time. I purchased some aeration tubing from a pet store, cut a 6" long piece and shoved it onto the grease syringe.

For 5.5 gl; lightly toast 4 oz freshly cracked cocoa nibs, 1 vanilla bean & enough cheap vodka to submerse for ~5 days. Dry/wet nib for 1 week. I usually add some oats for a creamy mouth feel also.

    Anyone tapped their home's gasline?

I plumbed a low pressure propane (we live in the woods not city) into my garage years ago and love it. It's not rocket science. When brewing off of the house gas line, you do not need a regulator, it's already regulated. I use a furnace valve and PID to auto regulate mash temps when I...

    Trypan blue?

It should be 172 billion, not million; I was multitasking. At 55 years old, memory is not as reliable has it has been, but I'm not willing to take that lying down. I have been fiddling around with cell counting and viability for a couple of months now. Two weeks ago I took a weekend course at...

    Trypan blue?

Thanks woodlandbrew, better late than never. I have been working on getting more accurate cell counts. I did a count on a fresh unsmacked pack of wyeast 1056 and got 172,000,000. So, I obviously have some work to do yet.
