    Conical in fridge or jacketed

Thanks for your incite. I have been saving for my next brewing investment for a while. With the funds I am trying to reduce my physical efforts when I brew & keg though "better" equipment. I had shoulder surgery earlier in the year and due to my inactivity (and laziness) during recovery, my...

    Conical in fridge or jacketed

According to BH the coil holds 3/4 - 1 gallon of liquid. have to see how much liquid is held inside my chiller. Based on my findings I may have to resort to some sort of reservoir to hold additional coolant.

    Conical in fridge or jacketed

I am familiar with the brewtech equipment. My perferance would be not to have a big lid, large gasket with latches. The chiller is nice. Functions like the drinking fountain I am using. Getting dual use out it with your CFC is a plus. I use a plate chiller & my detroit water is cold enough...

    Conical in fridge or jacketed

sandyeggoxj, gotta love the can do / DYI attitude. I bought a MIG welder just to build my single tier stand. It has come in handy on many occasions since. The drinkfountain chiller has the capacity to cool 1.8gallons/per hour so I should have enough capacity. My keg and carboy washer can...

    Conical in fridge or jacketed

Nifty. first I've seen of that one. If I was starting from scratch that would be a nice option. All of my equipment is in place. Just made the switch from a 3 vessel single tier natural gas system with direct fired MLT to the eHERMs system below. Brewed first beer on system yesterday. My...

    Conical in fridge or jacketed

A conical is on my Christmas list. I am looking for feedback on which would be your preferred setup; conical in a ferm chamber OR a jacketed conical. I was leaning toward the jacketed. I have already built a chiller out of an old Elkay drinking fountain that was being discarded at my office...

    Jet burner mounting distance

I attempted to use the 23 tip natural gas version of that burner in my rig. It was difficult to control the flame. It was mounted 6 inches from burner-tip to bottom of keggle. Flames rolled a good 6 inches up the side of the pot. Choking the gas down caused a lot of soot build up. I switched to...

    Knockout punch

I went the Harbor Freight route. They went through my Blichmann kettle with very little effort. The Keggle MLT was a bit more difficult but it did work.

Best brewery to visit in the detroit area?

Definitely go to Atwater. The "tasting room" is in the production facility. The brewers are young & willing to show you around if they have free time.

    -15 out.. can I brew?

Biggest issues I have experienced while brewing in detached garage are: freezing water spicket at the house or frozen hose if I leave it connected when water not flowing. Looking for a hose that stays flexible in cold weather. I tried the Flex Hose PRO. They stayed flexible & the are easy to...

What's your biggest non brewing hobby?

Cooking - It is a great creative release. My wife does not cook (or I do not like her cooking), so I cook everyday for my wife & kids. home automation; I use Homeseer to control my home [lights, HVAC, phones, cameras, & security] It is an addicting hobby just like brewing. tinkering in...

    Big Yeast Starter! How?

I have tested my new stir plate with different flasks, jugs & growlers. As long at the vessel has a flat bottom (on the interior) the stir bar should stay in place. Some of my 1/2g growlers work. My 1gallon wine jug is not flat enough to hold the bar, but I am always looking for more; hoping to...

    Auber JSL-73A timer

I have that timer in my panel. I have brewed 10 times with it and have yet to setup hop addition alarms. I am not making the same beer all the time so my additions, obviously, change & as KAL said I am usually next to brew kettle cleaning MLT. No additions missed to date.

    Basement brewery flooring

I am working on my basement brewery space (7.5" x10"). My floors are currently painted & painted POORLY. I started using a chemical stripper but did not like the results. Then I moved on to a diamond wheel on my angel grinder. That worked pretty well, but was messy. I finally decided just to...
