so what can you tell me about boil overs?

Don't worry about it. But learn from your mistakes. When adding anything to the boil always be ready to turn the heat down.

    Growler/Bottling question...

I would bottle the 2, and bring the keg to share with masses. Four growlers is a lot.

Do you clear the water out of a wort chiller after use?

Yooper makes a good point, not that it happened to him, and also the fact that it could freeze is also a good point. I always blow the water out. Why not?

Do I really need this or am I just being impulsive?

My first reaction was get it. Then I read all the posts. The pump is a luxury. I got mine after about 45 batches. I was making good beer without it, but my back was always killing me at the end of a brew day. I had to upgrade my kettle as someone mentioned. Love the pump. Saved my back. But not...

Show Me Your Wood Brew Sculpture/Rig

Hlt just has the tubing going into mash tun. Mash tun has the braided tubing. Have to slow down draining to maintain siphon because drain is not completely on the bottom. I found the tipping really helps.

Thinking of adding mugwort to my beer??

My wife wants me to try a mugwor beer. We would use it fresh, so I'm wondering how best to tackle it. I think OP used dried mugwort. I would maybe use it in a wheat beer, or a light pale ale. I am brewing a wheat beer tomorrow that I am going to split in 2 3 gallon batches. One will have...

    How safe is hose water?

A fellow brewer in home brew club uses an in line portable water filter he got at Wal Mart. I would make your own hose with some tubing from home brew shop and get some kind of filter. Just my opinion.

    When to Keg

At the same time you would bottle. After fermentation is done. Straight to keg, no priming sugar, right into kegerator. Blast with co2 at 30 psi to seat the lid. Check for leaks, purge keg to get rid of co2, set at about 12psi and walk away. Check next day to make sure I'm still at 12 psi, and...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Wife is busy Sunday. Perfect time to brew. First time in a long time, I'll have 2 fermenters in use.

    Well said!

    Og & Fg

Careful with the hydrometer. They break very easily. I never sanitize mine. I pull a sample using the tall skinny flask thing. My hydrometer never goes into the wort. I always drink my sample after my reading.

Fermenter Stopper Shot Up To Ceiling????

Setup looks good, except be careful of letting your beer get light struck. It'll skunk your beer. I would cover it.

    Wedding Brew Planning CO2 questions

Make sure your co2 tank is full, or at least half full.

    Grain question

If you want more alcohol, use your software and increase your grains equally. In other words it will say something like 70% 2 row, 10% crystal, 10% something else all totaling 100%. Note those percentages on the original recipe and use the same percentages for a bigger beer. Do the same with the...

Fermenter Stopper Shot Up To Ceiling????

Some of my most out of control fermentations were from wheat beers. Kind of impressive, but messy. I use a 1 inch blowoff tube going into a jug of star San.

CO2 Tank in Fridge or Out?

Go by what the regulator say where the tank is located. IMHO, I you have the room, keep it inside the fridge with the beer.

Show Me Your Wood Brew Sculpture/Rig

My stand is similar, except I always put my burner and kettle on the ground. I have 3 inch casters (only 2 on 1 end) and I have to wheel it over some uneven flagstone. I'm thinking of the bigger casters after seeing them in this thread. My stand is very sturdy, and I don't think falling into it...
