    Who's injured themselves brewing

I got a big burn on my stomach when I turned on my wart chiller whilst it was in the sink and didn't hold the outlet hose, the hose whipped up and spat boiling water over me. I did learn a good lesson, don't drink too much home brew when brewing! :)

    Weird fermenting pattern?

Hi can anyone help? I know it must get boring answering the same questions but this is the first time I have used a starter to brew. Anyway here is my situation. I brewed on Friday and pitched my yeast about 10.30 pm at about 18c (64f). I didn't see any fermentation action till Saturday (3pm)...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Just brewed a coffee stout using my washed London ale yeast in a starter on my DIY stir plate. It's the 1st time I have done this :)

    differences in brewing costs

Thanks for the link. I usually get my supplies from "the home brew shop" online or my LHBS who seems to be very expensive. :)

    Cheap stir bar question

Only a 6 volt power supply going through a 2 watt potentiometer. It works fine with the stir bar directly on the plate but as soon as I put the stir bar in my flask it throws it off

    Cheap stir bar question

Hi all. Sorry if this has been asked before. Just built my stir plate and I got a cheap 25mm stir bar. I have used a magnet from a hard drive and it is as close to the top as possible. My question is are there different strength stir bars because it seems to jump off the centre as soon as I...

    Coffee stout question?

Thanks for the reply. I might have to go down the add at bottling way as I have never made a coffee stout before. I like coffee but not too strong :)

    Coffee stout question?

Hi I have looked on the recipe database for the answer but can't seem to find it. What is the ideal amount of coffee to use and what coffee?

    Low Efficiency

Also you might want to look at water treatment. I used to get around 65 to 70% but last night I treated my water and got 89%. I didn't realise water made such a difference :)

    Improvement in water!

So I usually get around 70% efficentcy, but tonight I brewed and got 89%. All I done different was treat my water. Does treating your water really give you that much better results? Or is it just a lucky brew day?
