    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'll be brewing a Smoked Dunkelweizen tomorrow; it's going to be my first time having people along for the brewing (not including my own household). I plan to make it a learning experience and throw together mead and cider during the mash and boil. We will, of course, do a tasting of various...

    Complete newbie making complete mistakes.

I typically use WalMart apple juice for my ciders and was recently told it was "better than the stuff you get at bars" (totally didn't go to my head). 3qt juice, ~12oz sweetened black tea, ½tsp yeast nutrient, some white wine or coder yeast = dry cider at about 5.5% ABV. And yes, reuse your...

i drink a lot of beer

Looping back onto the main topic: I found that I probably consumed about 40gal (320 pints) of beer/cider/mead/hooch this past year. That is roughly the same as 2023. Because I usually give up alcohol for Advent and Lent this comes out to just north of a pint per day (~1.05). However, I don't...

District of Columbia What a grim month for DC area brewers: RIP MyLHBS and Annapolis HB.

MyLHBS was where I bought my first equipment and ingredients for brewing. Haven't gone there since I moved, but it's a shame that local shops are closing up. I just hope that Jay's in Manassas stays up and running!

    What are you drinking now?

Hard pink lemonade. Walmart had strawberry lemonade for cheap and it is only lightly carbed due to bottle conditioning + preservatives: backsweetened it is pretty nice! Probably something like skeeterpee, which I have neither made nor tasted.

    Confession: Drinking Stale Beer

I've found that beers I don't really enjoy tend to be OK in beer bread; the flavor gets diluted and a lot of off flavors get baked off.
