    What are you drinking now?

My first IPA (infected pale ale) Meh! Probably will use the remainder for beer bread.

Share Your Eclipse Experience (and beer)

Correct! I also made a pinhole box camera, which gives a very good single image, but the photos from that are not as nice.

Share Your Eclipse Experience (and beer)

Drove 7 hours Sunday to OH and arrived to find my hotel had cancelled my room without telling me. Found another (pricier) one and spent the eclipse on the shore of Erie. Got a few nice Pinhole effect pictures and was amazed to see totality, 360° twilight, and the "diamond ring". Worth the crazy...

    What are you drinking now?

It is with a perverse pride that I show you Mountain Dew Hooch. Tried some that didn't fit in the bottles. Not much flavor, and what there is isn't that nice.

    My T58 fermented "Dubbel"

    What are you drinking now?

My first alcoholic drink since St. Valentine's Day/Ash Wednesday - an experimental strong rice ale. Happy Easter everybody!

Advice on how to enjoy homebrewing over the years without becoming an alcoholic.

I limit myself to drinking on weekends/special occasions. I also periodically reduce consumption further/totally during Lent/Advent. And as noted, brewing lower ABV beers can help control net ethanol consumption while enjoying more than one drink.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Just brewed my first breakfast cereal beer: "Honey Bunches of Ale" with 1.5lb six row, 6oz C20, 2oz acid malt, 1.5lb HBoO w/ Almonds, 8oz toasted oats. OG 1.057 was higher than I expected; I guess that the high sugar and starch content means lots of extractables.

How many gallons brewed in 2024?

    1.5gal Honey Bunches of Ale (1.5lb six row, 6oz C20, 2oz acid malt, 1.5lb HBoO w/ Almonds, 8oz toasted oats) 718.5 + 1.5 = 720

    wanna be

I'm a newer brewer and found that extract kits were good entry points because they try to make them fool-proof (and there is lots of info online to help with questions). Also, starting with easy ciders/wines helped me get used to equipment and processes.

How many gallons of mead in 2024?

    1 gal traditional 82 + 1 = 83

How many gallons brewed in 2024?

    1 gal pale ale 511.5 + 1 = 512.5

    Don't Do That.

I got a couple one gallon extract kits as gifts and whipped one up this afternoon. Decided to use a smaller pot than my usual one because I typically do 2 gallon batches (you know where this is going). After adding the DME, I turn away, my wife says, "It's about to boil over!" Then it BOILED...

    What are you drinking now?

My first time serving a flight of my own beer: rice ale, pale ale, amber ale, and stout for my visiting brother. I just had the amber.

    Stupid Joke Thread!

Anakin Skywalker loves beer from America's oldest brewery. He can really kill a pack of Yeunglings.
  18. Lampy

    What are you drinking now?

Peach Hooch. Taste like juice when backsweetened and came out very clear, considering how murky "peach nectar" is.
  19. Lampy

    What are you drinking now?

HB saffron milk tea. Never had this before but I was recently given a bit of saffron and recommended to make tea.
