    wort pot ball valves

On the pot that I boil my wort the ball valve get encrusted with burn wort. My guess is the gasket on the ball valve is getting worn out and leaking during the boil. Does anyone know of a good place to get replacement gaskets for a 3 piece 1/2" ball valve? Or is this normal?

    yeast cake times

The ones I noticed that had a funny taste were a Belgium Pale Ale (7 lbs of pale malt in 6 gals). One that was fermented at 68 deg. and one at room temp that was over 68 deg. The one that eventually cleaned up was the one done at room temp. I also noticed this funny taste in Orlando Brewery's...

    yeast cake times

flars my problem was when I noticed a funny taste in my beer. I have not had it in the past few batches, but I have cut down on the amount of Pale Malt that I'm using. I keep my beer in the primary for a month. My thinking is the cake has more yeast than when bottled so it should do a better...

    yeast cake times

I posted a thread about yeast cake times and Yooper said "I'm not a fan of the flavor imparted by the yeast of a super long primary" I am wondering if I had experienced it. I had always attributed it to using a high amount of Pale malt in my recipes. It may also have been the fermentation...

    Frustrating hobby

I'm sure there are many reasons that this can happen. For me I was so afraid of getting to much oxygen when bottling that I didn't stir the priming sugar enough. The first case fiff the second poop with beer all over. If you love the hobby just remember perfection will always be your desire. If...

    yeast cake times

Arkotramathorn the beers are tasting good. My chamber is big enough were I can juggle two brews at a time if I skip a cold crash or let one sit a little longer than the last. Yooper what type of flavors do you find with longer primary times?

    yeast cake times

Thank you for your answers. I use a fermentation chamber. I tend to keep things a little cool in the first few days, then raise the temp a deg a day till I hit the highest temp I want. I then keep it on the yeast cake for a month total. Meaning a month after the day of pitching. My thoughts are...

    yeast cake times

Everyone seems to have a general time they keep their beer on the yeast cake in primary. What is yours and why? Maybe I get caught up in reading to much but I got worried. I know this can vary from different types of yeast, but if the yeast can last after totally fermenting the beer then...

    Culturing yeast from a bottle

Thank you all for your response. Riot I put it back in the refrigerator because the schedule of making the starter before brew day was a few days away. It was already cold so I thought it would be fine to place it back. Looks like I just need to stick with the vials and packs for now.

    Culturing yeast from a bottle

I know some say you cannot use some yeast from a bottle to culture that brewers yeast. I have read that you could with Chimay. I gave it a try and I did'nt see a drop in gravity, but I did have a fare amount of precipitant after a couple of days. Here is what I did. I collected yeast from a...

    RTD hook up

Thanks mattd2. That was it. After hours of testing and buying a new RTD set up it's alive.

    RTD hook up

part # is PT100. When I was trouble shooting this with Auberine they told me to put SN at 0. I will put it at 21.

    RTD hook up

I just tried a test with just using one positive. Seems to read fine at first but as the temp starts to go up the controller reads even farther from what the true temp is. I started at 76 deg. when the controller read 81 deg the true temp was 107 deg. I tested the controller with a paper clip...

    RTD hook up

I have a Auberins SYL-2352 that I'm hooking an RTD probe to. Auberins told me to hook the Negative(white wire) to #5 and the positive (red wires) to 3 and 4 with a jumper wire. I'm getting reading of 1200 deg. When I hook up the negative to 5 and one positive to 4 I seem to be getting the...

    gph per watt

Since I don't get a chance to brew that often I've used my pump about 4 times. I'm using 1/2" tubing and it seems to do well even at 3 feet for now. If it fails I have a backup.

    gph per watt

The 1500 watt element will be running on 110. I have one of the food grade 12v China pumps rated at 158 gph. I plan on running my pump intake from a 10 gal cooler then about 1 1/2 feet of tubing to the rims and 2 feet back to the cooler. I'm using cam lock fittings so I'm sure my head pressure...
