Must see breweries before you die!

Sam Adams is a great place. Their passion for beer can be seen through the while tour. As for the tasting, they always have an experiment or two on tap that they don't commercially sell.

The glasses you use for drinking your brews

I like to defy gravity by drinking it sideways too... ;)

The glasses you use for drinking your brews

Sam Adams makes a perfect pint glass. It is in fact perfect. I rarely use anything else. I've even gifted them to friends I trend to drink with the most so that I can utilize the glass when I am over at their place.

    sulfur smell

I've currently got two very different brews with two distinct yeast strains that are creating quite the sulfur odor. While I'm relaxed and drinking a home brew, since I've read that some yeasts produce this smell, I do have some questions. anyone know why this smell is produced? And how long...

    Hey guys just starting out

Your bottling hose would work, but you definitely want a container of sanitizer or cheap vodka on the end. A jar, bucket, gallon jug, whatever. The pressure will clear out your hose in no time if you don't.

    Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy clone

I've been looking for one for a few months now. The biggest issue seems to be with the acidity of the lemons. I got a lot of advice along the lines of "brew a beer and mix it with lemonade when you want to drink it." I currently have a DME/lemonade concentrate experiment in fermentation. So far...

    Lurker finally joined

Wow, I haven't seen the Brooklyn 1gal kit before. You could also try extract brewing, bfore jumping to a full mash, but that wasn't your question. How warm is your apartment? The tub in your bathroom (hopefully it is older and metal) if probably the coolest and darkest location in the apartment...

    Band Aid ... Now what

Have you tried bottled water from the store yet? One of the members of my brew club has some pretty awful water and uses gallon jugs from the store. It will allow you to eliminate 1 more variable at least.

    I'm over carboys...

Better Bottles (plastic carboy) eliminate a lot of the weight but still are a pain to clean and are not enjoyable to move around with 5 gallons of goodness in them. Buckets are the way to go. You can use a plastic spoon if it puts your mind to ease on the scratching issue. Better yet, make the...

New brewer, am i doing this ok...

If this is only 24 hrs post pitching, I'd go with a blow off tube now so you dan't have to clean this every morning for the next 2 days or so. I'm guessing this was a kit? If so, you should have a 3/8" tube that's used with your racking cane. The tube should be the same diameter as the hole the...

First time with double stage fermentation

You really should leave it in primary for at least 1 week. Search for "Primary v Secondary" and you'll get all sorts of info on this. Basically, the yeast are going to chew through most of the sugars for the first few days and then start to rid your beer of the byproducts they just created for...

Hydrometer broke in my carboy! Is my beer ruined?!!

Several of them are made from iron. The paper on the inside usually says what type of metal it is. After 1 month the glass should be at the bottom of the fermenter. I'd take a nylon hop bag, throw it on the end of you racking tube and filter this stuff. I'd also chalk up the bottom 1/2 gallon as...

Beginner worried about priming solution being mixed well

I over primed a recent batch of beer by about 1.5 - 2X what i should have. I didn't realize how much volume I'd lost through a blow off tube (racked onto a full yeast cake, holy fermentation). Thankfully nothing blew up and somehow the beer isn't awful. I would suggest putting the cases of beer...

Yeah, I'm having issues as well.

    Help, got some questions

I started 4 months back and now I'm 50 gallons in. I had the same question when I started. Search the Homebrewtalk site for "Primary v Secondary." You'll get enough reading material to fill your Sunday. I've done both. I had some lighter colored beers that I wanted to get as clear as possible...

    Hey guys just starting out

The DIY Coopers kit is a clear plastic container with a spigot and a domed lid. If they gave you a 6 gallon bucket with a lid that doesn't have a drilled hole in the top it will most certainly blow off. The Coopers kit is similiar to the Mr. Beer kit in the fact that there are small grooves that...
