    Fermentation Complete 1.030

Bummer, sorry to hear that. So if I pitched the amylase and it does nothing now, will it stay dormant or can I potentially have bottle bombs after adding priming sugar and bottling?

    Fermentation Complete 1.030

Any updates on this? Im in nearly the same boat... Accidentally mashed too high, OG was 1.062, stalled at 1.026 but wanted 1.013. Did some research on here and decided to add some amylase enzyme. That was 24 hours ago. No bubbles or even a slight hint of active fermentation yet.

    historic BIAB

Ive often thought the same thing. As simple as It is, I cant understand why anyone would brew with extract either. A 2$ paint strainer is the only difference in equipment.

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

Wow, thanks for all the info! I hadn't ever considered whirlpooling as a way to get more bitterness, but it makes sense. Also, I find it interesting that they finish around 1.012. That beer didn't taste that dry to me. Back to the drawing board for my 3 gal BIAB recipe... Thanks again for the info!

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

Yeah, setting the attenuation to 80% is how I fixed it in my personal recipe, and I agree that there are so many factors throughout the brewing process to nail down an exact outcome every time. That being said, if scores of people are attenuating WLP002 to 80%, then maybe White Labs should...

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

Thats exactly my point. It says that because its assuming a 66.5% attenuation, which is middle of the road for what WLP002 is advertised as attenuating to.

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

Positive. Heres a recipe for Wookey Jack on Brewers friend that is nearly identical to the first one posted, only it is for a 10 gal batch. Has it at 7.4% abv. It looks like it even mentions this thread in the notes...

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

Im not doubting you, I just wish I knew how to adjust for that discrepancy. Especially when trying to design my own recipes. If recipe builders such as Brewers Friend are putting that recipe at 7.4%abv with 65% attenuation, but in reality its finishing around 8.5%, how in the heck does one...

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

wow, now Im really confused. According to the calculator that SkeezerPleezer posted, 1.080-1.016 is 63% attenuation. When building the recipe on brewers friend, I need to enter 80% attenuation to get to the same results. I don't get it.

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

My calculator had WLP002 only attenuating at 63%. I bumped it up to 72%, (which is 2% over what White Labs has it attenuating to) and that helped, but it still has me well short of 1.080-1.016. To go from 1.080 to 1.016 is 80% attenuation, but White labs says WLP002 attenuates 63-70%. If I...

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

So I had this beer for the first time tonight, and wow. friggin delicious. My question about the clone is, they all come up short, (according to my calculator anyway) on abv and IBU's. For example, the original recipe on page 1 of this thread comes up as having a abv of 7.4%, and 59 IBU's, well...

    WLP090 San Diego Super Yeast

I just did a 10 gallon batch of a Ten FIdy clone with this yeast, and it did friggin amazing. Made 2L starter, and it went from 1.100 to 1.019 in 7 days. I also used 1/2 tsp of yeast nutrient.

    BIAB - Amount of Water.....

    BIAB - Amount of Water.....

Thanks pdxal. So that calculator calculates mash volume with strike water... so to get total kettle volume in your BIAB mash, you would need to take that number, plus grain absorption, plus boil off, and that would give you your total volume needed? Using my first example of 8 lbs of grain...

    BIAB - Amount of Water.....

Great info here. Ive got one question- Does the BIAB calculator Beer-lord mentioned account for grain displacement? For example, if I enter 8lbs of grain, 1hr boil time, and 3 gal final volume, it gives me 5.00 gal of strike water. So, does this mash take up exactly 5 gallons worth of space...

    3gal BIAB Apricot Blonde question...

So I am going to make a dry dock apricot blonde clone. Here is my recipe- 5.5lbs 2 row .5lbs Crystal 20 .5oz cascade 60 min. Now, the recipes Ive found call for apricot puree to be added to the secondary, and then a few ounces of apricot extract at bottling. My question is, instead...

Thinking about trying a 3gal BIAB Ten Fidy Clone... is it possible?

Thanks for the responses. @70ls1nova, your grain bill X.66 comes to 15.3lbs for a 3 gal batch if I did my math correctly... what was your OG? I realized I scaled my recipe down wrong, so the grain bill is actually: 7.8lb pale 2.4 munich 1.2lb chocolate 14.4oz barley 14.4oz crystal which comes to...
