You can get them there, but the equipment at the Brewtong is pretty primitive. I shipped over triclamp fittings and ferrules, and picked up some nice pots but I held off on the welding until I can get a better idea of what I want. I really like the E-HERMS setups and 220V is standard over...
I got the greatest news this weekend, me and my brewing partner took first place at the Beijing Craft Beer Festival! I really had no idea we would do any good, for me it was just cool to be able to say we had an entry. The festival was really well attended, and there were several local craft...
Let me know where you got these. We are still trying to source glass carboys locally. Plastic is not a problem, they are everywhere, but glass would be nice. And the smaller size is appealing for some other things as well (like black rice wine).
Contact me, you can send me a PM. I am in Beijing and we just started a homebrew club here. We have access to the ingredients, equipment etc. Good luck, I need to make the train ride down to Tianjin some weekend, maybe we can hook up.
Lots of beers in Beijing. If you make it up this way...
I found stainless steel pots at HEC (Hotel Equipment Corporation) across from the south railway station. Here's a pic of the row of pots, they had every size you could imagine. I saw a couple of 58 gallon ones but I don't think my stove is quite up to the task.
I picked up two 10g pots...
I will be picking up some kettles later this week, probably in the 15g range. I am considering placing tri-clamp ferrules in two spots on the kettle to be used with a Brewmometer. Here's a pic of what I have in mind:
This way I could move the Brewmometer around the system depending on...
My wife took an empty suitcase to NYC and I had everything shipped to her hotel. I got dinged for $200 for being over the weight limit coming back, but it was still much cheaper than paying shipping and customs fees. The TSA searched the bags but allowed everything to come through.
The wife went to NYC for a week and took an extra suitcase to bring back a few things. I really feel bad because I nuked her with 80 lbs of stuff. But she is a trooper and packed everything carefully and got it all back to Beijing.
Next I have to go back to HEC and pick up some kettles...
I detailed my experience with water in Beijing here.
I live in the CBD of Beijing in Central Park, one of the most pricey areas of the city. Water quality swings wildly from day to day, some days you can get in the shower and the smell is close to solvent. One shower literally frosts the...
Corny's are cheap here, or at least that is what I was told. But you would probably be surprised, things here are double or triple in cost compared to the U.S., and many things are blocked from being sold to the domestic Chinese market.
I became interested in home brewing after I visited Great Leap Brewery last year in Beijing. I live in China six months out of the year and the local beer is the equivalent of water, though imports are not too bad but the selection is limited. I was back in Chicago late summer and fall of 2011...
