    Kegging/Cold crashing/Clearing Question

I like to cold crash in the keg when using gelatin. I kind of use it like a secondary. I'll transfer from fermenter to keg, then hit it with co2 before cold crashing. Once cold, I'll inject the keg with the gelatin solution, gently rock to mix it around, then let sit cold for a few days. Then I...

$10 in-line regulators at manifold instead of multi-body regulator at CO2 tank?

Do the regulators have an operating pressure range listed on them? If so, what is it?

    Festbier BierMuncher's OktoberFAST Ale (AG)

S-04 is ok. If you can lager, this recipe makes a delicious Marzen. After making it with wlp830, i can't go back to an ale yeast. Maybe try 66-67 to try to cut back on any fruitiness.

$10 in-line regulators at manifold instead of multi-body regulator at CO2 tank?

Good luck with it. I tried something similar with some cheap Norgren regulators. Gave up on the idea after multiple leaks. Also, the less expensive regulators weren't as precise (hence the pressure gauge graduations). Also, the regulators I was trying to use needed a higher inlet pressure than...

Bringing kegs to the cottage. How to transport and serve?

I wouldn't rule out the option of just bottling the 2 kegs worth of beer, if you have the ability to bottle from kegs. While this doesn't answer your question, it's still a good option and would be easier to deal with for a short stay. Transporting kegs will shake them up quite a bit causing...

I think they're hot, but you probably don't

Hahaha, this is a forum full of homebrewers, good luck getting them all to agree on something. Example: Of course she's not everyone's "style", only people attracted to females are going to think she's hot.

Did I order the wrong size flask?

The white labs pack I'm looking at says "for OG over 1.050 or yeast past it's best by date, a starter culture can be made". It does not say one pack will work for ANY 5 gallon batch. It doesn't say you HAVE to make a starter either. They would probably prefer you don't make a starter and just...

$10 in-line regulators at manifold instead of multi-body regulator at CO2 tank?

Is your co2 tank inside the freezer? If so so, if you could possibly free up enough space for a 3 or 4 regulator setup inside if you moved the tank out and ran a line in to the regulator manifold. This would require a primary high pressure tank regulator with a line going in to your secondary...

$10 in-line regulators at manifold instead of multi-body regulator at CO2 tank?

It will not work like that. A needle valve controls flow not pressure. Need separate regulators for different pressure.

Did I order the wrong size flask?

To answer your question, if you have the 1 liter and can't exchange it, yes you can use it. A small starter is (usually) better than no starter. I started with a 2 liter then had to get a 5 liter. Now the 2 liter hardly gets used except for trying to harvest yeast from bottles.

Did I order the wrong size flask?

You're better off going bigger. I'd recommend a 5 liter. You can still make a 1 liter starter in a 5 liter flask, you cannot make a 3 liter starter in a 1 or 2 liter flask. If you EVER might consider making a lager, or a big beer, or a 10 gallon batch, you'd be safe with the 5 liter. They really...

    CO2 inflation?

Depending on how much of a difference "food grade" co2 makes, there IS another option in the area. Fire Services Inc on Bayside rd near diamond springs rd in VA Beach refills bottles on site. He gets around $13 for a 5 lb refill and $22 for a 20 lb refill. If the bottle needs to be hydro tested...

So I caved in and bought a Thermapen Mk IV last week

I'm looking for an excuse to replace my Thermopen classic with the Thermopen mk4, but the classic still works so I can't do it right now. I did just get the SMOKE from Thermoworks for cooking and monitoring mash temps. Added the long 12" probe and the sous vide probe to it and it's a pretty...

Filling a growler of high carbed beer

Yeah, i use the same setup and mine is hit or miss. Without having some sort of "counter-pressure" filler, the growler fillers aren't much better than pouring right from the faucet. Maybe add a stopper and some sort of pressure release button valve. I set up a bottle filler in a similar way. My...

Filling a growler of high carbed beer

What are you using to fill it? A regular growler filler insert?

    Craigslist Conical?

I'll let you know if I do anything with it. I found a "domed lid" upgrade that looks like it would work for it on morebeer.com, it comes with a gasket and a triclamp ring to get rid of the T-bar. It's really expensive $230, so I won't be going that route. They claim that the upgrade allows for...

    Craigslist Conical?

I just got a very similar conical in a deal and am looking at options to make it work. The one I have is an original morebeer.com conical according to the guy I got it from. I just messaged Jay at norcal to see if he can come up with the fitting needed to upgrade. I'm thinking it's not going to...

Do you need a 1 off Stainless part built for your system? Let's discuss it.

I ran across this old conical, and i'm trying to get it usable with the capability to dump and collect yeast from the bottom. I do NOT want to try to cut or weld anything to it because it's not worth the effort for what it is. The bottom of the conical has a 1/2" male pipe thread welded in, and...
