    Kolsch not carbed

I will look. If this is the case, would they still carb or would they have already finished conditioning?

    Kolsch not carbed

I transferred from the fermenter to kettle that i bottle from. I add CO2 to the kettle and fill from the valve to help with oxidation. I boiled two cups of water with 3 Oz of corn sugar and added it to the kettle first that way beer coming in mixed in with it better. Then bottle and cap. I...

    Kolsch not carbed

Did a all grain Kolsch and it has been three weeks in the closet bottle conditioning around 68 degrees. I decided it was time to put in the fridge to lager but opened one to try and see what it was like before lagering. Zero carbonation. I put them back in the closet for now. I used WY2565...

Missed my starting gravity, any suggestions?

I asked about and someone else posted that but I never actually did it. I may have quoted someone too, but never got around to it.

Missed my starting gravity, any suggestions?

When I used to do Extract kits I only ever had 5.5 in the boil. I would have the other half off to the side in case I over boiled and went below 5. But I did before chilling. I knew because of the following. Here is a tip if you do not have a sight glass on the kettle. Have a rod or even use...

    Wheat beer hop substitute

So I’m Brewster by a summer wheat from adventures in home brewing. Either they didn’t give me hops or I used them else where. Idk. I know I should have done an inventory first but...or course the time I didn’t I don’t have something. Mashing right now. It calls for 1 pack or 4 HBU idk what that...

    Base Malt for Grist affect

Thanks I’ll keep that in mind. I do use brewers friends website on my phone. It worked pretty good, just not as many grain options, that’s why I asked. I haven’t been able to get EZ and bruN to work. Seems those are xcel download spreadsheets. The brewers friend app doesn’t seem to do water...

    Base Malt for Grist affect

Because I’m going to do a Juicy style NEIPA I figure citric would be a better choice than lactic for a potential flavor that complemented it. Wouldn’t distilled water need to be treated a little for sparge? I know you want less than 6, and distilled is usually around 5.8. Would that potentially...

    Base Malt for Grist affect

I appreciate that. Looking to buy a house soon and plan to build a spare garage as a brewery with a little desk/office and computer, but baby steps. NEIPA Juicy 2:1 Chloride:Sulfate Target 5.4-5.5 8 gallons all distilled (5-5.5 gallon batch) But I put 7 in the calculator to account for boil...

    Base Malt for Grist affect

Brewers friend It only gives base, crystal, roasted and acidulated as options. I don’t have a personal computer so I use my phone. I can’t seem to get ez or bru’n to work in my phone.

    Base Malt for Grist affect

When calculating my potential ph for grist do I include only the base malt or everything? The recipe calls for 10lbs 2-row 8 oz of carapils and white wheat, 1 lb flaked wheat and oats, 4 oz of honey malt. Are those considered base Malts or specialty and which do I include in my calculator...

    Residual Alkalinity Question

I have read and read and read and searched here and other forums and online, I just can’t seem to figure out what the deal with residual Alkalinity is. I understand what it is, but should we really worry about it? I see some say meh, doesn’t mater as long as the ph is good. Some say it very...

Using Extract Beer Kits Past Expiration Date

I was referring to his cans of extract which are like regular food tin cans in most cases. Your points are valid just not what I was referring too. But on the note and not meant to get too off topic here, there are certain bees I prefer in a bottle versus a can. They just taste different to me.

    Metallic odor/aftertaste

I had a batch taste metallic once, never really sure why, but we let it sit/age for a couple months and it settle out and taste fine after that. Do you use bleach to clean? If left for too long it can corrode the metals even ss a little. If not rinsed proper that could be imposing some flavors...

Using Extract Beer Kits Past Expiration Date

I’ve used old extract (2.5 years) but was store in a bag rather than a can. It had a stale taste to it. This may be hidable in darker/hoppy beers but this was a cream ale. There is question to storing long term in cans as well. Like they say with food, it will store for a very long time...but...

    The Cascade Decision I Made

Just the same as I would for five gallon. Ignore the Lodo principles here because it is inventible transferring a single gallon to a bottling bucket and bottling. My recommendations is to purge the bucket with CO2, a smaller bucket might be a good investment and drill a hole to put your spigot...

    Belgian Triple Still Bubbling

So you think that’s what it is? It says it’s a type of infection. I sanitize the hell out my stuff so I’m hoping not and infection. I did do a bleach solution sanitation of my stuff before this batch too. Do that every 3-4 batches just to make sure I’m killing as much as possible.

    Belgian Triple Still Bubbling

It’s at 1.008 started at 1.086. Target was 1.085-1.090 and 1.010-1.015 so ‘done’ and then some. I’m measuring it at 10.25% This is the first complete recipe build I’ve ever done. Sample tastes great with a little carb to it, thus the bubbles in the carboy. But why is it still bubbling. It has a...
