New Future Kegging Master Questions :)

I'm not sure about the one step cleaner as I have never used it but my understanding is it's a cleaner, not a sanitizer. You could possibility have an infection. Someone here with more experience using it would know better than I . I always clean my kegs using PBW, then rinse with hot water...

    How did you start...?

When my wonderful wife said to me, just do it! your not getting any younger, I took her advice. I spent 2 months reading everything I could get my hands on. Including here and watching YouTube videos. Another month or so building my brewery. Then jumped straight into an all grain 2xIPA as my...

    First Lager??

This is my Pilsner recipe. Temperature control, patience and plenty of healthy yeast are the key to good lagers and pilsners. HOME BREW RECIPE: Title: Pilsner Brew Method: All Grain Style Name: Bohemian Pilsener Boil Time: 90 min Batch Size: 6 gallons (fermentor volume) Boil Size: 7.6 gallons...

    First Lager??

Patience is a virtue when I comes to lagers and Pilsners. My best Lagers and Pilsners have had at least 6 weeks of lager time. I always do a single infusion mash so the step mash is not necessary. Temp control and massive amounts of healthy yeast are the secret to good lagers IMHO.

Beginning brewers - You can start with all grain

sounds a lot like how I did it. All in from the start. Just have to be willing to do the research and prepare before the first brew day.

    Age in bottle or fermenter?

It does not matter what you ferment in. The yeast will do the work. Plastic pail, glass carboy or stainless conical. It will make good beer if your process is sound. I too am fairly new. 18 months and 27 brews under my belt and learning more with every batch. Brew, learn, enjoy!

    Age in bottle or fermenter?

For a pale ale I don't believe aging is necessary. As long as it's at final gravity bottle it. A little time in the fermenter will give the yeast time to clean up after themselves but you only need a few days after fermentation is finished.

    The Six Gallon Question

I usually go for 6 gallons. I bottle a six pack out of the fermenter to natural carbonate and keg the rest.

CM Becker V3S or Perlick 630ss faucets?

I just bought 2 of the Intertap faucets through Amazon for under $20 each. These are the chrome plates brass units. Absolutely love them. They have an interchangeable spout so you can attach a growler filled or stout spout easily. Look and work just like the Perlik for a lot less $$$

Beginning brewers - You can start with all grain

Mongoose33, while I agree MOST should start extract, I and some others enjoy the challenge of going all grain to start. My LHBS guy said I was probably only the second person he knew that planned on going all grain as their first brew. I have always been a "go big or go home" sort of guy. I have...

Beginning brewers - You can start with all grain

I too wanted to.start AG. I already had an 8 gallon stainless turkey fryer pot and a 10 Igloo cooler from our camping days so the equipment cost issue was minimal. I Read Palmers book cover to cover 3 times and watched many YouTube videos and read many discussions here before I started building...

Where do y’all buy your Erlenmeyer flasks?

I have an electric stove so I can't boil in the flask. I boil in a stock pot and let it cool for a for a couple of minutes. Then carefully pour into the flask using a funnel with the flask sitting in the kitchen sink. Then fill the sink with cold water. I think transferring the wort while still...

    I have a Sailor!

Congratulation on his graduation. I spent a year at Great Lakes and 4 years in the Navy. Good luck to him in his Navy career. As a Navy veteran I look back on those years as a great adventure and some of the most fun times of my life. I have made lifelong friends while in the Navy. While at sea...

Huge yeast starter or yeast washing?

I am in the "over build starter" camp. IMHO you get clean yeast with very little effort. Easy and cheap. Just have to plan ahead.

How much does a full corny keg weigh do you think?

Pain meds? They give you pain meds? I got Tylenol. That's why I had a pint. Snipped on a Friday, rest for 2 days then back to work on Monday.

First time yeast starter/stir plateb questions

As long as you don't have chlorine or chloramine in your water that would be a good choice.

First time yeast starter/stir plateb questions

I used distilled water for my starters till I read somewhere that you shouldn't use RO or distilled as the yeast needs some of the minerals for healthy reproduction. I don't know if that is true of not. I started using bottled spring water and my starters do seem to do better. Maybe it's just my...
