What else is needed in an upgrade?

I agree with the whisk, I use a 24 inch French whip from A#####. A little cheaper than a stainless mash paddle and I feel works better. Start with Distilled or RO water and build appropriate water from there. An inexpensive gram scale for building your water and weighing hops is a good...

    Dogs

Two years ago today we were in Hondo TX. To pick up this little one. 3550 mile round trip from Pennsylvania. She fit right in with our two other rescue family members. She is the class clown of the pack. 4 days on the road and worth every minute and mile to get her. She is our second family...

    Dogs

There are many dogs out there in shelters in need of a forever home. Many rescue organizations have very reasonable adaption fees. We have three rescue dogs and they are the best. All they ask is for a safe home and they will give back far more than they receive. If considering getting a dog...

Our three fur kids. Varly on the left, Zoey top right and Natalie bottom right. All rescues and all very loving. Because of the environment they came out of Varly and Natalie needed special attention to become the trusting family members they are today.

Keeping one you foster is known as a foster fail. I know a few people that foster all the time and all have failed on at least one that is now a permanent family member. We have three fur kids and all are rescued from high kill shelters or abusive situations. Rescue pets are the best. All they...

    Random Picture Thread

The Engineman Chief on my ship always said he likes his coffee the way he likes his women, bitter! No salt for him.

Was in Lowe'$ today, full on Christmas decorations with some Halloween already in the discount area. No hint of Thanksgiving that I can recall seeing.

    Remineralizing RO water for drinking

Lifer juice {chiefs coffee} was always strong and black. The only way to drink it. That stuff kept us going for days on end when things got crazy in the engine room. That is how I learned to drink coffee and still do to this day, 40 years later. Straight RO is just too bitter for my taste so...

    Remineralizing RO water for drinking

For drinking water I use one gram Himalayan Pink salt and half gram of baking soda per gallon. Not sure where I found this recipe but it adds back 85 essential minerals and helps balance the pH but not sure of the ppm, I go by gram per gallon. For coffee water I add 1.65g Baking soda, 1.25g each...

Anybody out there enjoy WLP051/California V?

I recently tried WLP051 in my house ale. A Mosaic / Citra IPA that I usually use WLP001 or WLP007 for but wanted to try it to bring out the fruitiness of these hops. Fermentation temps set at 67degrees F. OG 1.065. Same water profile that I usually use. Slower start to fermentation than I...

    I'm a newbie and I don't know where to start :/

IslandLizard, Yes, forgot all about sanitation. My bad. Thanks for mentioning that. I installed a small RO unit about 2 years ago and it has more than paid for itself. Buying and hauling distilled water from the grocery store was a pain in the a$$. There were times where they were out and...

    I'm a newbie and I don't know where to start :/

MooDaddy ^^^^^ What Chorgey said. If brewing all grain then it gets a !little more involved. Some feel that some salt additions can help with the flavor profile even with extract brews. To start I would just stick with either distilled or bottled spring water.

    I'm a newbie and I don't know where to start :/

MooDaddy, Water, yeast and temp control are in my opinion the three biggest factors in making good beer. The water you start with is the primary building block that everything else goes into. Chlorine and chloramine must be removed because of the unpleasant flavors that they cause. Those can...

    I'm a newbie and I don't know where to start :/

When I decided to get into this obsession..... Hobby, with the encouragement from my wife, I bought a copy of Palmer's book so I could read through it several times and make notes in relevant sections. Also watched many videos. Some good, some not so. You have to decide what you want to believe...
