Hops Questions for BYO's Mr. Wizard?

I'm digging this. Keep it up, guys! The show's only an hour, but this is fun.

Hops Questions for BYO's Mr. Wizard?

No takers? I expected at least a few people would be interested.

Hops Questions for BYO's Mr. Wizard?

I host a local craft beer radio show in Springfield Missouri, which also happens to be where BYO Magazine's Mr. Wizard is a brewmaster for Springfield Brewing Company. He's a monthly guest on my show and this week, our topic of discussion is hops. If you could ask Mr. Wizard any question you...

Cheap options for a small Linux server/controller

What about temperature sensors? What kind of options do you have for working with Linux? I've seen that Yuri has built his own, but I'd rather not if I don't have to. What are some options for temp sensors and relays that will work with a Linux system without having to build the sensors...

    Raspberry Pi Brewhouse controller?

At this point, I'd just love to use a spare PC I have, throw LINUX on it, and set up some temp probe inputs and some SSR or pump outputs to control temps during brewing. It would also be cool to be able to extend this to control temps for a fermentation chamber or a kegerator, but I'm not there...

Cheap pump and FDA approved 12v 100c

I'd be interested to see how one could integrate a PC power supply, these pumps, and some creativity to build a brewhouse controller from an old PC. I wish I had the electrical knowledge and a 220 in my garage (or an unlimited budget) so I could be the guinea pig, but I know myself a little too...

    Uses for spent grain?

    Ah. My bad.

Brew Pal software in the iTunes App Store

It seems to do this for dry yeast. It worked when I found a comparable WYEAST to enter.

    Uses for spent grain?

Also, I noticed the "chocolate chips" in a recipe for dog treats earlier. Everyone should take not that chocolate is also toxic to dogs. Only add the chocolate chips if your wife will be eating them all.

    Uses for spent grain?

Do a google search for "Spent grain recipe" and you'll find a lot of results for how to use them in cooking.

Brew Pal software in the iTunes App Store

It's kind of a shame the temperature adjustment for the refractometer is gone, but you can adjust that pretty easily before plugging it in. I would be nice to have back in a future release, though.

What can I expect from this recipe?

Looks like an ESB to me, but you may just have to Tate it and then decide what style you call it.

How do you slow down a new brewer?

Ridiculous consumption of CO2 shouldn't be a problem. It's really oxidation you should worry about, in my opinion. If you prefer, you can add some priming sugar to the keg instead, but I'd also add some fresh yeast to make sure that that is not the reason it is not carbonated. (if the beer is...

How do you slow down a new brewer?

You have inspired me, sir. I'm just about to rework my brewhouse (read: garage), and now I need a dry erase or chalk board and a computer. I even have a couple of PC's which could serve just laying around.

How do you slow down a new brewer?

Your friend will just need to figure out that beer is about balance. Coriander is strong, so 3 tsp instead of one is a pretty big deal, but more importantly he need to also learn that brewing is a process. To make consistent beer and avoid undrinkable batches, you have to be able to tell what...

I Think I'd Make an Excellent Advice Columnist- Another Rant

That guy should never have agreed in the first place. That kind of ultimatum is a deal-breaker. When she said, "if you're going to be with me, you can't see your children again," his answer should have been, "if you make me choose between my children and you, you will lose. Every. Time."
