    refurb old Beermeister - possible?

Haven't spent much time on it yet. Still thinking about doing something with it tho. For now I have my keg in the garage fridge w/ a picnic tap.....not the same. I'm thinking the easiest thing would be to replace the compressor and put in fresh refrigerant. I'll post here what I do.

    5g Lager w/ 1 pack of yeast?

Here's an update on my Boch: It was at 54F for 16 days and looked to be having a healthy fermentation. It slowed down so on Tues (2 days ago) I pulled it for a two day diacetyl rest at about ~65. I just checked the SG and it's 1.022. Not bad! I have a thin blow-off tube going into a small...

    5g Lager w/ 1 pack of yeast?

Well, like Beerman and others said, activity did increase very gradually; slight krausen forming and more steady bubbles in the lock. In the meantime, I made a starter, cold-crashed it, and pitched it. Before pitching the SG was 1.068 and OG was 1.074. A day after I pitched the 2nd time...

How do you mark your fermenters?

Thanks for all the great replies guys. I'm gonna go the masking tape route. I like the idea of just pealing and restocking on the next vessel; keg or 2ndary. Edit, by the way, I asked my wife for a nail polish she won't wear and marked the 5gal line on my fermenter. Great idea!

How do you mark your fermenters?

Kind of a weird question I know, but I'm wondering if anyone has found the perfect way to mark your fermenters with contents, date, OG, etc. I tried those wax pencil "China markers" but they don't write that well. Is there a different marker you're using that shows up well and is easily...

    5g Lager w/ 1 pack of yeast?

I asked the question right before I started brewing. With a wife and two kids, if I have a window of opportunity to brew, I can't pass it up....could be weeks before the next one. Thanks Sam, I see more activity, but I can't imagine it's going to ramp up enough to actually complete the job...

    5g Lager w/ 1 pack of yeast?

there is a very (very) thin layer of patchy tiny bubbles on the surface, slightly more airlock activity, but I think I need to repitch. Here's what I plan to do. The LHBS was out of dry lager yeast (of course), so he gave me WL German Boch yeast WLP833. He also threw in a slightly expired one...

    5g Lager w/ 1 pack of yeast?

Thanks bosco. So it's day 3 at 55 and as of this morning there's really no increase in activity to speak of. I'm thinking I should pickup some more lager yeast and pitch it. Mr Malty says I need 25g of dry yeast. If I can't find Brewferm Lager yeast (the stuff I already pitched) what do...

    5g Lager w/ 1 pack of yeast?

Thanks all for the replies. It got to mid 60's I'd say, pitched, then threw it in my ferm chanber at like 55. It's been 2 days since I pitched and I'm seeing almost no activity. Maybe a bubble every minute or more. I'm thinking I should buy some more dry yeast and pitch it, what do you...

    5g Lager w/ 1 pack of yeast?

Crap, thanks for the replies. I had a feeling you guys would say that. I brewed it and rehydrated the dinky "sachet" of yeast per the instructions and pitched it. I guess we'll see what happens. I can tell you nothing's happening yet. I would have made a starter if I had more time....and I...

    5g Lager w/ 1 pack of yeast?

Hi All, I bought a brewer's best "European Bock" kit. For a 5gal. batch they provide one 12g package of Brewferm Lager yeast. I just built a small ferm chamber so I can keep it at the right temp (this will be my first lager attempt). Should I rehydrate the yeast as the packet instructs and...

    ebay temp controller...broken?

I recently bought an ebay temp controller, the single-mode Fahrenheit one, and it was working briefly but now when the "work" LED is blinking, there's no power from the outlet. I think the relay it staying open. Just wondering if there's something I can do to fix it. This happen to anyone?

Would this work to connect vinyl hose to my IC?

On the opposite end of the union from the vinyl tubing I'll connect the soft copper tubing from the IC with a regular metal ferrule. I'm not a big fan of garden hose connectors being up close to the edge of the pot for fear of leaks. Seems like this would be a much better solution than a...

Would this work to connect vinyl hose to my IC?

Hey Guys, I was thinking about connecting my 3/8 OD copper IC to one of these compression unions, then connecting the other end to vinyl hose using one of those little brass inserts. See the picture. Seems like this would be the best and cheapest way to attach to hose. Anyone else have any...

    refurb old Beermeister - possible?

Hey all, I have a Beermeister brand kegerator that I bought used for cheap. I've been using it for a while and it gets cold, but the compressor is too hot to touch and it's kind of noisy. Replacing the compressor is expensive and hard to do. So I was thinking about the possibility of getting...

    commercial beer marketing stuff

I had extra, so I thought it would be a nice gesture...no? Has anything sent from the lower 48 ever taken this long? If not then I'll refund your money.

    Club around Bridgewater?

I'm a noob homebrewer, have 3 batches under my belt, and I'm looking to join or start a homebrew club. I live in East Bridgewater... are there any other brewers near by? Is there a club near me that I'm not aware of?

    1st yeast washing attempt.....FAIL

I bet they figure, if your using an extract kit, you're not experienced enough to know what a difference a Belgian yeast would make.

    1st yeast washing attempt.....FAIL

Thanks aubiecat. breaking news: I just got home from work and the starter isn't doing anything, but my primary is bubbling away. I nice steady bubble...nothing crazy, but if it keeps up I should be good to go. Thanks all!

    1st yeast washing attempt.....FAIL

If it were to catch-on after a long delay, say 72 hrs, won't a lot of the O2 be gone out of solution?
