Use weak wort from 1st batch for 2nd batch?

Good point. I never thought about pH. Oh well, the second mash is almost done. I guess it's too late to worry about it. I did add about 50% water to get the proper volume. Time will tell.

Use weak wort from 1st batch for 2nd batch?

I have a HERMS setup and I'd doing a doubleheader. Since I don't have big enough pots, I'm doing 2 identical batches (Saison) with the same recipe. One for me and one for a friend's party. Anyhow, I just finished putting the wort into the boil kettle and I have about 2-3 gallons of weak wort...

Bobby, Yes, that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up!

    Keg Posts Seal Flaw

I have a Corny keg that has been leaking. So, I decided to replace all the O-rings. As I was doing this, I realized there is a flaw in the sealing system. There is an O-ring between the top of the keg and the bottom of the dip tube. Fine. But, when you screw the posts on, there is a...

Brewing with Wyeast 3724 Belgian Saison

Update: I kegged my Saison this weekend. The FG=1.006! It dropped from 1.019 to 1.006 in less than a week. Amazing! I still can't understand why/how it did this.

    Northern Brewer Replacement

I used to buy a lot of stuff (almost exclusively) from NB since I didn't have any decent LHBS around. Now, I have www.love2brew.com that I buy almost everything from. They are about 20 minutes from work and have fresh ingredients, great selection, and excellent prices. They seems to do a lot...

Brewing with Wyeast 3724 Belgian Saison

Okay, as of today, the gravity is down to 1.019. Where do you think this will finish? Wyeast claims an attenuation of 76% to 80%. So, it should finish around 1.014? I'm thinking of kegging this baby next weekend regardless of where it's at!

Brewing with Wyeast 3724 Belgian Saison

Okay, it's been 3 weeks and my gravity is at 1.022. It's only dropped 3-4 points in the last week. So, I'm thinking it's stuck. I really need to get this baby kegged so I can brew a few more batches before winter. I've had the temperature at 92F for over a week and a half. Raise it to 95F? I'm...

Brewing with Wyeast 3724 Belgian Saison

Why remove the airlock? I haven't seen this. Do you want to get air into the fermentation? I have the temperature ramped to 90F now. It's been constantly bubbling along nicely. I was going to replace the blowoff tube with airlock tonight, but now I'm not sure. (I really never needed the...

Brewing with Wyeast 3724 Belgian Saison

I brewed my Saison yesterday with a SG = 1.058. I didn't have time to make a starter since I bought the ingredients on Friday afternoon and brewed early Saturday morning. I was a little concerned that the yeast wasn't active in the smack pack because it didn't puff up like it usually does...

Brewing with Wyeast 3724 Belgian Saison

Like I said, I can keep the temperature at anything I want. So, should I start at 85 or 90 and maintain it?

Brewing with Wyeast 3724 Belgian Saison

How about pitching 3724 first until the expected stall occurs and then pitch 3711? My last batch using 3711 almost went down to 1.000!

Brewing with Wyeast 3724 Belgian Saison

Hi all, I just finished a keg of Saison that I brewed with Wyeast 3711 French Saison yeast. It was fantastic! Now, I want to try the "difficult" Wyeast 3724 Belgian Saison yeast. I've read a lot about this yeast. I can control the temperature to anything required. Should I start this at 90F...

    Saison Fermentation with Wyeast 3711

I keg so carbing isn't a problem. I have it cold crashed now and I'll be kegging it tomorrow. Hopefully, there won't be too many off flavors.

    Saison Fermentation with Wyeast 3711

I brewed my first Saison two weeks ago using: 12 lbs Belgian Pilsner malt 1 lb CaraRed 1/4 lb 80L Crystal ---- 1 oz Hallertauer (60 min) 1/2 oz Glacier (60 min) 1 oz Herbrucker (10 min) ---- 1 pkg Wyeast 3711 French Saison yeast I've kept it at room temperature the whole time. I'd...

    HERMS Circulation Issues

Interesting topic. I've done about 10 batches in my HERMS setup since late last year. I have a SS 8 gal kettle for my MLT with a SS false bottom that sits about 2" above the kettle bottom. My first batch had issues with it getting stuck. I called my LHBS which helped me put together this system...

need fast (2 weeks) beer ideas

Brewed my IPA last Saturday. Hit a little over 1.060 and kept it at 65F. Today I dry hopped it even though it was still bubbling away a bit. I raised the temp to 66F and will slowly increase it to 68F by the weekend. I'll cold crash by next Tuesday and keg by Thursday to give it a few days to...
