Spike Conical- observations and best practices

No problem, Nate. I've enjoyed reading a good number of your posts over many months.

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

This could be a very simple device (i.e. far less than $1000) that might help folks get their fermenter from 38F to c.30F. How complicated and expensive is your stir plate and magnet? There appears to be a need, based on the hundreds of posts of people trying to find a solution for this very...

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

I've also grappled with this issue, and am in general agreement with Beholder and Mongoose33. In many/most cases a colder glycol temp (under -2C) is not the solution. Check your return glycol temp if you can and this will give you some useful data on this. If your reservoir temp operates low...

    Your Favorite Liquid Yeast Brand?

I focus on viability, and thus like WL especially in warmer months since they are just a half hour away from me. Having said that, their shop does not always sell the freshest of yeast. I was in last week and their English Ale yeast was within 2 weeks of its sell-by date (i.e. almost 6 mos...

Star San mix ratio...what do you use?

Think of it this way. If the manufacturer wanted to sell more product, he probably would recommend a higher concentration. So this is probably the highest, still safe and effective, concentration they can recommend (while also remaining commercially competitive).

Best option to cover cement floor in brew area

Floors on brew day often get wet (at least mine so), so make sure if you epoxy the floor (DYI or professional) you use an anti-slip agent on it (e.g. Shark Grip, but there are several), otherwise you may find yourself working on an ice rink with a fall very likely in your future...

Fullers recipes for ESB/Pride/Chiswick, Imperials, NEIPA - from the horse's mouth

Pinging ESBrewer to see if you have refined your ESB recipe since your post of a couple of years ago. Looking to brew this in the coming weeks. I was very interested in your previous recipe, and keen to see if/how it has evolved since then. Thx!

    Beer engine cleaning

Wonderful little video. It seem that in today's society, technology and practices are ever advancing, while language is ever regressing.

    Custom/personalized beer glasses

I used Logo Bar Products (logobarproducts.com) for my custom glasses. This is a 20 oz. BarConic pub glass (they have a huge selection of glassware). Very affordable and they print the image which you upload to them. I was concerned that being a printed image it might not hold up long, but...

Ordering from YVH what do I need to know?

The vacuum sealer is perhaps one of the best/most used kitchen investments we have made. I got one as a "gift" for my wife, and told her of all the wonderful things it could do for our groceries and cooking. But she's much smarter than me, and quickly deduced that this gift was actually for my...

    Heart surgery beer

Congrats on the results of your recent procedure! You're a pretty robust dude, given that brewing isn't the easiest of hobbies (e.g. carting around full carboys, wrestling with kettles, buckets of spent grain, etc.) -- immediately following OHS!! Hoping this one takes care of things and...

    Home brewery porn…

Excellent garage brewery set up! No doubt you can host the biggest block party in town!! I've got the snooker angle covered. A full-size (12-ft x 6-ft with 2-1/4 in. slate) Burroughes & Watts from 1907. It's in my Dark Corner Brewpub and Snooker Club, which SWMBO amazingly allowed me to build...

    Ordering liquid yeast

Ordered two pouches of Wyeast from NB a couple weeks ago. The online ordering process did not provide an ice pack option (and nothing on their website even mentioned ice packs), so I contacted them. They replied that they only provide ice packs when the weather dictated. I replied that it was...

    Long Draw System Troubleshooting

Sounds like your trunkline is not (glycol) chilled, or chilled to a cool enough temp. I've got a 23'L x 1/4"d trunkline, with a homemade glycol chilling system that runs 24/7. Had the usual "first pour" foam issue until I managed to get my glycol temp down from 31F to about 28F (return temp in...

another thread on co2 loss ...

Do you have a scale that can be monitored remotely and perhaps with an alarm (similar to an inkbird wifi temp controller)? That would be very nice to have.
