Leaky co2, do you use duotight connectors on the gas side?

Understood. I have a traditional 8.8 cu ft keezer and front collar-mounted faucets, which fits 6x slim-style Torpedo kegs. The c.6' length requires 2-3 loops per line, which gets a bit messy when you have 6 kegs squeezed together. Would be nice to have a more "direct to keg" style line design...

Leaky co2, do you use duotight connectors on the gas side?

Slightly off topic, but I notice that EVABarrier now makes a 3mm ID (6.35mm OD) tubing, and the ball lock connectors for same. I'd love to use this, especially for the beer side to further reduce the length of tubing needed for balancing. But I have not found a good way to connect the tubing to...

Leaky co2, do you use duotight connectors on the gas side?

To help manage bends, I warm up the tubing (about 160 - 170F) and bend/shape it for what you need. That works well for relatively gentle bends. If you have sharp bends, use Duotight ell fittings. And, yes, definitely use the blue horseshoe shaped clips!

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

Temperature is an issue with the 1/3 HP pumps. I press mine to about 135F, but not more than that. I run 180+F PBW through a Riptide for 20+ mins., to get the heavy stuff out, then replace fluid to a new 135F batch and use the high volume sump pump for another 20+ minutes. I also remove the...

    oxidation question

If your keg is filled as much as possible with StarSans, then it's not really that much gas.

Tell me what to brew next! (poll)

Just put one in the fermenter. Will be a very nice, and appropriate, change from my generally much higher ABV inventory!

1.144: is this just a bad idea?

Maybe I'm missing something here about Tilt and its connectivity, but when you are accessing data, it is either connected or not, no? It is probably not poorly connected and thus sending you erroneous quality data. I think the issue which I have seen, which may be related to the above problem...

Buying grain mill vs buying crushed grains

I've brewed many batches at 0.045" without rice hulls and never had a problem (I use a Spike 20 gal MT with false bottom; I also continuously recirculate and fly sparge). I then reduced my crush slightly (to about 0.04) and had a couple of close calls - whew! Then I went to grain conditioning...

Steam condenser boilover and figuring out proper power percentage

I've got a Spike 20 gal BK and 5500W element with a homemade (Brundog) 2" condenser mounted to the side with 9gph nozzle. I last measured 0.9 gal./hr BO with 50% power. That is more than birazz quotes, but using a different condenser design. [BTW, as long as I keep the initial boil volume to...

Buying grain mill vs buying crushed grains

If you are brewing frequently, and/or with 10-12+ gal batches, a mill can be worthwhile. Find the setting which works best for your system, and don't change it unless you have to (e.g. wheat), as that is something of a pita (at least for my mill). Consider conditioning your grain for milling...

    Kegerator 25' lines to Tower

I've got a 24-ft remote system from keezer to tower. Unless you want to flush your lines after every session, and also have a higher delivered temperature (possibly foamy), you will need to use a trunk line with glycol-chilled recirculation lines. I use 1/4" dia. product lines, which give me a...

First Time Keezer Build - What do you wish you knew/What lessons did you learn?

+1 on gas tanks (CO2 and beer gas) being outside of the keezer if you can. Made my 2nd keezer (upstairs) that way, and am so happy. Now converting my 1st keezer (downstairs); it's almost claustrophobic having the tanks in the freezer (esp. if you also run beer gas) and more work to do almost...

    Motor for barley crusher

Many like to over complicate simple processes, but if that's what they really want I'll never say not to go for it. But in my 10-12 gallons batches (up to c.42# grain), my Milwaukee cordless is a simple solution, works like a champ and has never even breathed hard. Given that the bucket fills...

Changed co2 hose, didn't flush before connecting to keg

Evabarrier (and some other beverage and gas tubings) are "less permeable" to oxygen (than e.g. vinyl) due to their special liners. I haven't researched this to any great extent, maybe others here have. Are there any data available that quantify the O2 transmissibilities? I'm curious to know...

Mystery Perlick Faucet Part II - Faucet Boogaloo

I recently bought these springs for my 630s, because I was worried by a leaking faucet or a bumped handle, which might dump a keg on the floor overnight and possibly empty a gas tank as well. Simply awesome, works perfectly. I can't believe I didn't know about this and do it long ago. Perlick...

What I did for beer today

I use Chalk Ink on my chalk board, chalk tap handles and box fridge (keezer) tops. I use Artista Pro markers for markings I don't want to easily come off (i.e. with water; they DO come off very well with acetate, though, if needed). I use their Wet Wipe pens for markings which will change (e.g...
