I was wondering, does anyone know how much alcohol would be produced in a 1 gallon batch from 1lb light DME and 6oz sugar?

    Alcohol% that Yeast Dies?

I'm just curious what the reading would need to be on the hydrometer to max out the yeast before it dies from excessive alcohol.

    Fermentation Stuck!

Hmmm. I just measures it and it was hovering between 1.020 and 1.019. Guess I measured it wrong last night lol

    Fermentation Stuck!

It's for 1 gallon. Trying a recipe someone posted that was popular. It is strange that the first reading would've been wrong. I'm following instructions for the hydrometer which is you pour until the hydrometer begins to float. I suppose it is possible my first reading was incorrect. Assuming...

    Fermentation Stuck!

So I've run into my first stuck fermentation. I'm hoping y'all can tell me what to do. It's been fermenting in the initial 3-4 days and it's basically stopped. I stirred up the yeast and it is barely bubbling. So it's a hard root beer recipe. Light DME, 1 pound lactose, 4oz brown sugar...

    Beer bottle dynamite :(

I read on a few brewing sites that once the east is done for imaging, which is about a 3 to 4 day process, that it should sit for two weeks befor bottling. Is that not accurate?

So how long do you let it sit with the priming solution before you bottle it?

    Root Beer - Bottom Sediment?

Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone can answer this question for me. When brewing homemade root beer there is sediment at the bottom of the bottles once they are ready to drink. Does anybody have any tips or tricks to avoid this?

    Beer bottle dynamite :(

I have one bottle that did not explode. It was only half full. I put it in the fridge to stop the yiest. When it comes to using honey, it's pretty easy. It's only 1.99oz for a gallon (2 oz rounded up). Just have a cup of water (boiling hot) on your scale and Zero it out. Then slowly pour in the...

    Beer bottle dynamite :(

I just talked to some home brew experts at a local shop and they said for 1 gallon it's 1.25oz granulated sugar, or 2oz honey. Lol so that's a huge difference in the amount of sugars. I can use truvia, which I will use in the next batch and see how it works out. I do have lactos in it, but...

    Beer bottle dynamite :(

Thank you very much for everyone that has replied. I learned so much in this thread. For those of you that were wondering why I added more sugar, it wasn't until after I added the extra sugar that I realized that the carbonation was coming from the east eating the sugar adding pressure within...

    Beer bottle dynamite :(

So I have just recently started brewing my own beer. Sadly though, my very first batch ended up exploding. I was hoping somebody could tell me what I did wrong. I followed the instructions on a brewing recipe. It's a recipe that many people have brewed and everything turned out fine. I used all...

    Hard Root Beer recipe

I was curious, I tried making This recipe with a little tweak and I've noticed, that after about a week of growing, it looks like a blonde ale. Not quite golden, but like a light brown. A very light brown. Is that what happened with you? I'm asking because I have brewed root beer before and it...

    Hard Root Beer recipe

So here is my noob question: You said, "Boil DME, brown sugar, and lactose with about 4 cups water. Pour in primary." What do you mean by "pour in primary?" I assume that's the jug the brew is fermenting in? Sorry for the noob question. I've only done brewing "kits" and i'm venturing into...
