    Favorite lyric from a song.

Now I've got that feeling once again I can't explain you would not understand This is not how I am. I have become comfortably numb.

Anyone stick their kettle in the oven?

I've done it before. My oven only goes down to 170 so slightly high but it worked fine for me. I was doing a 3g steep with an extract recipe and after 30 mins in the oven my 150 water only 155, still ok for steeling. If your oven doesn't go down to 150-160 you might have an issue with only 1g...

The original Lager thread.. Everything you ever wanted to know or ask

See that all depends on how much you need your brew assistant. I find if I ass right at the beginning, my assistant become lightheaded and passes out leaving me to do the work; however, if I ass towards the end we can keep working together and then I get a good laugh watching him pass out, but...

    Northern Brewer/Midwest Supplies merger

Got an email about the BN party during NHC which came from both Northern Brewer and Midwest Upplies, I'd say it's a good chance.

Florida Brew Pubs ~ Orlando Area

I know there is a World O Beer opening in the Villages soon, yeah it's in the retirement community but WOB is always a great place to great a new beer.

Big Beer kills FL growler law

Of course, lets protect a three tier system that spits in the face of capitalism... Its cheaper to buy from a grocery store than a bar can buy from it's distributor, that sounds exactly like a system we should protect. Might be time to reconsider who Mayfield and Sachs are really representing.

    Fermenting at 64 degrees

The only thing you want to pay attention to is how far into your fermenting you are. If you start at 64, great it will work perfectly. If you start at 68-70 and then after the main ferm time has passed switch it lower to 64, you might actually cause the yeast a little temp shock causing them...

    Projects

Most of my projects have been ways to clear out the garage...aka make room for my home brewery. Being in Florida with no basement, the garage becomes the storage location of choice and always ends up being a cluttered mess. I've been trying to find a way to pack as much stuff away as possible...

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

Nice and simple, I like it. Have you noticed any issues from air getting trapped at the top in the T above the exit? It may cause a dry fire issue for that inch or so where the element isn't submerged.

    washing yeast help

I haven't done it myself yet but I'm where you are now, I've done a lot of research and will be trying soon. With that said, about the only thing I see wrong is the fridge over night. Most sources I've read say just to wait about 20 mins for everything to separate. Essentially what you've...

    My Weldless Build Using Strut

Amen, completely baffled by why someone would want 150 degree water that high... Let alone a stainless steel vessel. But, that's my opinion.

Growing Hops In Florida Tampa Area

I have mine in pots so I can't speak from experience however from everything I've read I'm not sure i would go much closer. The root system of these things gets huge, they love to spread. I planted 3 crowns in January each in a 20 gallon pot and all three have already reached the edges. If...

American Amber Ale Caramel Amber Ale

For DAP look for Yeast Energizer, as for the candi syrup, I used D-90 and it came out good. It's been in the bottle now for about two weeks and the aroma is spot on but the taste is a little green, I think some time will help settle it. Not sure how force carbing will go since I haven't tried...

How many of your family members and friends are homebrewers?

Same here, though I'm trying my best to convert them.

    Florida Hops experiment

I'm in the same boat, I'm hoping the cold snaps call it quits. Even my Galena which has been a beast growing like crazy seems to have stalled now. All three plants look healthy and green but I'm just not seeing the growth I had.

    Pasta Roller Grain Mill

Awesome idea! I've been thinking about working with a corona mill but honestly that's probably the same price out the door and you get a roller mill instead. Nice woodworking too, very clean. Any issues with the roller spacing or slippage from stress on the pins?

Show Me Your Wood Brew Sculpture/Rig

I'm still in the process of building mine so no pics yet but I found my casters at a local flea market. There is almost always one shop that sells bolts and widgets, look there. I got dual lock casters for 5 bucks each, would have been 60 on Amazon and those were smaller than the ones I got so...
