    Trinity brew pub wheat saison

i just made a lawnmower saison from midwest yesterday that used 3.3 lb wheat and 3.3 lb light malt; it came with belgain wheat yeast..maybe 5942?. seemed a bit odd to me, but that's what's in the kit so....

How long from bottling to first taste?

i waited 3 days and had to have one from my first batch last night; it had a head for the entire glass, decent carb, slight smell of apples. i was impressed, but will try to hold off on rest.

    Re-using yeast the lazy way?

great thanks. i just read a thread called "my first attempt at yeast washing"...the process was very clear and had awesome pics. i'm excited to do this after my next beer, a saison...my first use of the expensive liquid yeast.

    Re-using yeast the lazy way?

hmmm...this method seems to capture all the trub as well. is that ok? could you do a brew day in this manner... first make a batch of wort and let cool, then bottle a batch that has been fermenting and leave trub and inch of beer on bottom of bucket fermenter, finally just dump leftover...

    cheap ale

haha...i just broke it down to how much you would need for one batch. i bought 18#(my first purchase outside of a kit :>), but really just getting a 3# bag is not that much more.

    cheap ale

...and i'm a big-time newbie.... but it wouldnt be that hard to make batch under $25; i just bulk ordered light dme for about $10.50 for 3# bag. that could serve as a base, re-use yeast, and add light hops, little grain for color...no? morebeer.com offers a bunch of extract kits under $25...

Help me mod a cooper's kit....

I"ve heard the lager is pretty good. I"m going to mod a coopers stout kit....sorry to hijack...by adding 3# dme w/ can. Is there anything else that would help make a nice rich thick 'n creamy stout??? steep a pound of chocolate malt? cinnamon, coffee, lactose?

Did I add right stuff to Coopers IPA kit?

krump...we are here for your amusement :>) i contacted the seller, learntobrew, and they told me that the fermentabels in fact were 500g dme + dextrose, though it wasn't labeled that way; and i most likely got a wrong reading. onward and upward...my next batch, which i have already will be...

Did I add right stuff to Coopers IPA kit?

^the DME came with the coopers beer kit "package" for learntobrew.com via amazon which includes dme and priming sugar; and it was 1.5 pounds of DME...not kilograms :>( ...i'll just see how it goes and maybe complain to the company if it comes out like crap?

Did I add right stuff to Coopers IPA kit?

the coopers site says that 500g light dry malt extract and 300g dextrose should be added. i guess in my recipe the malt was just upped at expense of dextrose....which i think could work out? i could have easily read wrong og as it's my first time. i'm going to focus on the positives...it's...

Did I add right stuff to Coopers IPA kit?

^I guess I don't know what the recipe was supposed to make...I assumed 6 gallons from coopers instructions, but could be wrong.

Did I add right stuff to Coopers IPA kit?

uh oh. learntobrew might have made recipe for 5 gallons, but coopers kits generally make 6 which i followed (could fit about 5.5 in fermentor), so that could contribute to low og; definately mixed wort well enough as i boiled about 2 gallons and mixed that in pot then added to fermenter w/...
