    Nutrients

I started a batch of mead two days ago. It is just honey and water with a starting gravity of 1.10. I made a mixture of 1/3 fermaid K and 2/3 DAP to add in staggered additions. On day one I added a little less than a 1/2 tsp. of the nutrient mixture just before pitching. I used a 5g package...

    Electric BrewEasy

I am considering an electric Blichmann BrewEasy for 5 gallon batches. They make a 120v and a 240v BoilCoil for the 10 gallon kettle that comes with this system. I like the convenience of the 120v but am worried it will be to slow heating. The 120v is 2250w and the 240v is 3750w. Anyone have...

    Red beer

I don't have a local home brew store so I can't get CaraRed. I have Pale crystal (25l), C-45. C65, C85 and C120. My plan was to use 2-row and Munich for a base and then the caramel grains to bring the sweetness and color. I do not want a heavy or roasty flavor. I want it to be smooth and...

    Apricot lambic

How about I ferment the beer with US05 first, rack on to the apricots then add the Roeselare? Then let it sit for many months in the closet. Should I treat the apricots with campden tabs first?

    Water

I am trying to figure out how to get rid of an aftertaste in my beer. I would describe it as astringent, dull, flat. I am thinking it is due to the high CaC03 in my water. My water unaltered is has total hardness (CaC03) 182ppm, PH 7.3, total alkalinity (CaC03) 177 ppm. Ca-61, Na-18...

    Black ale - black malt

I actually have some midnight wheat on hand but have never used it. I just tasted it tonight for the first time and it is very tasty. ProMash tell me 3.7% will result in a brown in color. Do you mind sharing your recipe where you used 3.7% and it came out black.

    Black ale - black malt

I would like a little bit of roast flavor. The wheat is a good idea, maybe a combo of both.
