Actually, the clean bit in the pic (with the orange dot) is the top of a factory splice, tying the lower section of the frame to the upper part. I will be replacing the lower section of frame, the factory splice, and the damaged portion of the upper frame. Will be adding an engineered splice...

What I did for beer today

Took some high alk beer that wouldn't bottle condition (5 gallons, 18%) and distilled it. Must have done something wrong, first run came out at 145 proof. This is my second attempt at distilling, the first batch (apricot brandy) also came out at 145. I guess that's what water is for.

That is Frame 20 in the pic, a MAJOR structural bit, and it is totally wasted. It ties the aft end of the nose wheel well box into the floor structure, and further up, it forms the aft jamb of the forward entry door. I already have good news from engineering, they're going to let me cut out the...

Been off the forum for a bit, and haven't brewed any beer for a while, either. Staying busy fixing crashed airplanes. Just finished a survey on an Airbus A320 that had the nose gear collapse while being towed thru a turn. Pretty ugly, but I got an all expenses trip to Puerto Vallarta for a week.

Do they have one of those rest stops with marbles that roll uphill? Asking for a friend.

I used to live on VAFB in the early 70's. Minutemen were a dime a dozen, but the Titans were real ground shakers.

Yep, that's the one. Ours was in plastic water bottles. The other one had sour cherries in it, and the alk burn was much less noticeable.

P.S. I'm going to try getting a bottle of this stuff back to the states, and I don't mean the commercial version.

I really don't know. I've only used oak, never even heard of mulberry barrels before. Maybe oak has too much tannin?

So, last night in Romania. Had to try the local hooch, called Tuica. It is a twice distilled plum brandy, commercial samples range up to 130 proof, but the local home brews go a bit higher, probably in the 150 range. Surprisingly, it doesn't come off as rocket fuel, actually fairly tasty...

No, just killing a mountain of paperwork, and prepping our toolkit for shipment home. Unfortunately, I'll only be home for 4 or 5 days, then off to Mozambique for about 2 months of fun in the sun, then scheduled for about 3 months in Australia. Maybe I'll be back in time to enjoy my 65th...

After 40 days of 12 hour shifts, this baby is ready to fly again, scheduled departure tomorrow at 11AM. I'm scheduled for a flight back to the states on the 11th.

I recently loaned a friend my table saw and a dado set, when it came back, the blade was installed backwards. Gotta wonder about some people's kids!

Ha! Somebody else's problem, I'm still in Bucharest fixing a 767. Gimme a tail number on the MD-11, I've worked on most of their planes.

You know you're a home brewer when?

Never heard of Brewers connection. Will have to look that up if I ever get back to Tucson!

    What are you drinking now?

Back in Bucharest tonight, Leffe Brun with dinner. This might possibly be my new favorite beer.

    What are you drinking now?

It's known locally that I brew beer, so some unknown person left a case of empty Kirkland Craft beer bottles in my driveway, still trying to figure out who. So, I got a case of bottles without having to choke down bad beer!
