    Black Stuff At Hop Line

To me that looks like dried hops. Possible an interaction between the hops and the stainless steel. Though I've never had that happen myself. You're beer will be fine.

Assuming a 5 gallon batch. 1.5 Oz. Magnum at 60 minutes. .5 Oz. Centennial 30 minutes. .5 Oz. Centennial 10 minutes. 1 Oz. Citra flameout, 20 minute steep. That should give you about 80 IBU's Keep your dry hops the same. I think you would be very happy with that. I've done Citra with...

    WLP630 - WWYD?

I've always understood that with blends you shouldn't do a starter. It could lead to an imbalance in the blend. I do not remember where I read that. I see no reason why you couldn't do a starter. It just might not have the same profile as if you just pitched the yeast directly in to the fermenter.

That is an accurate amount of Magnum for a Ruination clone. If you want to add Citra to the mix I would back the Magnum off to about half of that. Maybe 1.5 Oz. at most. For an extract batch I would target no more than 75 IBU's. You also do not need to boil LME/DME for 90 minutes. I would do a...

I guess I should call them then. I'm still waiting as well. I've not had an issue in the past.

White Labs' Vault - 860 (Helles Lager)

I have ordered from the Yeast Vault many times. I would not plan a brew day around having a particular yeast at a set time. Once the order amount is met it can take weeks, or in rare occasions, months to get a vial once it goes in to production. As an example: German X Lager Yeast WLP835 met...

Cloning Troegs Brewing Blizzard of Hops

Yes, that will be up on a new thread. Probably in 2 to 3 weeks. That is going in to the keg on Sunday. Probably needs a week or two to condition after that. I'll try to post a link back here once I get that up.

Cloning Troegs Brewing Blizzard of Hops

Thanks! I spent a lot of time trying to come up with Game of Thrones themed names for my brews at the start. It really confused people and It was better for me to just use the style in titles. I keep the names to myself and still use them internally.

I swapped the Ella for Galaxy equally. I was only a few months in to brewing at that point. My calculations may not have been perfect. This is on my list for an all grain rebrew later this spring. It's funny you mention Nugget Nectar. I spent the last few months researching a clone which I just...

    kit for christmas

There is an article over on BYO that describes how long various types of malt are good for: https://byo.com/article/shelf-life-storing-your-ingredients/ The short version is that liquid extract has a shelf life of about 2 years before it starts to degrade. You should be fine waiting till the...

Brewing a Troegs Mad Elf Ale Clone + Recipe

I started thinking about what I was going to brew for the holiday season back in October. Troegs Mad Elf Ale has been my go-to holiday beer for a very long time. I set out to create a clone. I searched for an accurate recipe that matched up with the malts listed on Troegs site...

Where do you mill your grain?

I always mill outside to keep the dust out of the house. I don't have a garage to brew in. But as long as you're not putting the dust in to chilled wort you'll be fine.

    Possible infection?

Just yeast. That will drop out in time. But I wouldn't let that sit around too long. You want to drink that one fresh.

    Sanitized wash rag infection ?

Assuming you didn't use the rag/sanitizer for washing the floor, or any other area, before using it to clean the carboy, you should be fine.

Bunch of odds and ends... what do I need?

The cooler with the false bottom looks to be a mash tun with a recirculating sparge arm. That would appear to go with the pump. I'm honestly not sure what the equipment is in the other coolers. Maybe a heat exchanger/wort chiller?
