    Do your wives get mad?

My wife was totally against it when I told her I wanted to start homebrewing. Too many hobbies already, too much junk, blah blah blah. So I brew with a friend at his house (his wife is more understanding). We split costs and finished product and it's a lot of fun brewing with a buddy. The...

    Foaming all over the place!

Yeah, sounds like you need to relieve some pressure. Take the airlock out and have a towel ready in case you have a gusher through the airlock hole. Put on blow off tube or just wait until the most active fermentation is done and reinstall cleaned and sanitized airlock. If it 'splodes on ya...

    Pickle Bucket

My pickle bucket no longer smells like pickles..... after using it as fishing/bait bucket for about 2 years. Seriously... just driving home with it made my car smell like pickles for days. It is one of the hardest smells to get rid of. You could use it as a seat. Try grocery stores or bakeries...

I think I hit the motherload

Hey Gatorbrew...I don't keg, so not asking for one, but just wanted to say that was very generous on your part to give most of those away to your fellow brewers. Hope you are rewarded with good karma.:mug:

Where can I get gallons of peanut oil cheap?

I do turkeys and brews. No worries. Dawn and hot water cleans it right up. I got my peanut oil at Sams. $39 for I think, 35 pounds. Plenty to do the turkey. They also had a cooking blend for less, but since I got my fryer at a garage sale for 8 bucks, I splurged and went wtih tht 100% peanut oil.

    Seeping Grains

To squeeze or not to squeeze...that is the question. Most of what I've read said not to, but brewed a batch last night (extract) and went ahead a squeezed the old bag. Seems most BIABers squeeze so I figured why not. Is there a definative answer to whether you can safely squeeze your bag!

    www.cigarplace.biz

Never used them. I've gotten several shipments from Cigars International and have always been happy. They are running free shipping now. Checked a couple cigars between the two and prices were pretty much identical. Cigars International - discount cigars, humidors, cigar accessories

Can I spice-up the amber ale after primary?

I did this with a porter. Bottled half plain and added pumkin spice to half. Easy way to do a pumkin flavored beer.

    BIAB mashing question

Thanks all for the replies. As soon as I kill my last couple extraxt kits, going to definately try BIAB. My pot is only a 7.5 gallon turkey fryer, so may not be able to do big beers, but really looking forward to trying this. I can see the next steps now...... bulk grains and hops...a grain...

I'm pretty new to brewing, and haven't dry hopped, but there are actually a lot of threads on it. just search dry hopping in primary. The search function on HBT actaully works well. Much better than a lot of forums I've used. Here are a few threads on the topic...

    BIAB mashing question

Thanks HItransplant. Seems like that's the way most folks do it. Was looking at the BIAB wiki and it summarized the process as In layman’s terms, BIAB can be summarized as follows: You put a nylon bag in a big pot of water, pour in some grain, heat it to a specific temperature and hold it at...

    BIAB mashing question

Want to start BIAB soon. Think I have the basic process down from reading various threads, but have a question on mashing. What is the difference, if any, between heating water to desired strike temp, then adding grains vs. adding grains to cold waterand then bringing up water temp to desired...

Never tried it, but lots of threads on it. Just search for bottling in mason jars and read varying opinions. Most feel not a good idea for several reasons.
