Just finished brew, off the chart reading?

To answer your first question. There are people on here who say to leave it on the yeast and not use a secondary; then there are those that live by using secondary. The question is, what is the temp of the basement? The thing I would look at is fermentation done before you leave on vacation...

    Quilters Irish Death Clone?

Yes it is the original Barley Wine. I got the recipe out of a homebrew book and put it to a calcuator. I agree with if you want it smaller, put it in another calculator to scale it down in gravity. I haven't had time to try and brew it yet, been a bit busy with work.

Do you use and icebath when cooling or just top up water?

Just finished brew, off the chart reading?

Are you in a bucket or carboy? If you have a carboy, you can pick it up and shake like crazy. It will do 2 things, one it will mix your wort and topoff water really well. The other big thing it will do is add O2 to the wort. This is a good thing, Yeast like O2 when growing and starting the...

Just finished brew, off the chart reading?

I would pitch what yeast I have to get something started. The longer you wait till pitching time, the more bad bugs will grow (learned the hard way). If you get something going, you should be alright; but no promises. Off subject, if you are interested, we are hosting a learn to brew day up...

Just finished brew, off the chart reading?

Do you have any Idea on a grain bill? Next question, do you record any of your brews with either a notebook, spreadsheet, online brew calculator, or software? You may want to look into one of these for future brews, just to help you along. There are really 2 things I learned about brewing; 1...

    Home brewing blues.

Do you at least have enough $$ for grains???? I know the feeling. It took me almost 2 years to get all the equipment together for all-grain.

    What next?

Thanks for all the input. With all the input everyone gave me, I think what will happen is I will end up buying a mill and pump here soon and then asking my kids for a refractometer for Christmas. I do not know if I could get bulk grain as cheap as $.50/lb, but I have a couple of friends that...

    What next?

I see most people are saying either refractometer or mill. Any ideas on which one? I have seen 2 roller and 3 roller, but the 3 roller is just a little more. If I were to order a mill, it would have to be online. I have LHBS within 3 miles of miles house and half way between home and work. I...

    What next?

I have been thinking about this lately: I want to get something else for my brewery, but what. I have narrowed it down to 3 items of what I want to get. The first is a grain mill, next is pump and then a refractometer. Just looking for some answers from others on which order should I purchase...

Will these burners work for 10 gals?

This is what I use and I can get 10 gallons of tap temp to about 165 in about 20 minutes. It also has a 30 psi reg on it. You may be able to get that much heat from those burners if you get a higher PSI regulator on it, normal is about 10 PSI. My burner puts out about 200+ BTUs at full throttle...

English Mild-how long in the bottle?

Two weeks from brew to drink on a mild. Brewed on a Friday let ferment for 10, keg conditioned and then enjoyed the on that Saturday for cask fest this fall. I brewed a very easy beer, had to wait 10 days as the yeast was still fermenting but then transferred to keg and conditioned in the keg...
