    Primary forgotten

Damn, that’s a hell of a story. I guess with all of that going onnit’s understandable. Sounds like you have a good doc though. Can’t wait to hear how this batch turned out!

    Primary forgotten

How do you forget a beer for a year? I check mine twice a day for two weeks, keg it, and within 48 hours I’m finally enjoying thee fruits of my labor! This stuff is way too exciting to forget a batch. Anyway, yea if there’s still some water in the air lock and it wasn’t infected from the start...

    Kegging bottling

Yea, with the easy and cheap solution of a bottling wand it makes no sense to buy a $100 beer gun. You get more waste with the bottling wand technique and it only really works with a picnic faucet but it does work well.

    Kegging bottling

To naturally carb both the keg and bottles? Should work if it’s well mixed. However you can bottle carbonated beer from a keg. I use a bottling wand with the plunger mechanism removed, I fill from the bottom until the foam stops and beer begins coming out, I then lift the wand out while...

    Fermentation Vessels

If the trub gets too deep they do become useless. I have an IPA in primary now that I'm really hoping compacts down a bit more or I'm going to have some trouble. I have faith my beer will behave though.

Beginning brewers - You can start with all grain

Sure, you can look at it as lucky to have good water. Since I think most people have decent water for brewing (after they remove chlorine), as specharka pointed out, it's likely that some people just get unlucky. Semantics I guess, but I think most people would be lucky in this department by...

    Fermentation Vessels

Agreed. Spigots are way easier to deal with than siphons; setup, operation and cleaning.

Fermenting Temps went high last night

Temp control is most important in the early hours of fermentation. Many people begin ramping temp up after a few days as off flavor production isn't an issue anymore. I'd bet the one form Saturday is fine, the one from Monday probably is too but time will tell.

    Cold crashing in Keg

Twice I have moved beer from one keg to another. Worked great both times and the second keg had zero sediment. I did it for other reasons but there's no reason your idea wouldn't work. If the receiving keg is clean, sanitary and purged of O2 you're risk of damaging the beer is almost zero.

Ideas for insulating a cooler mash tun

I don't really have anything to add regarding further insulating a cooler but how much of a temp drop are you guys actually seeing in a cooler? I mash in a converted keg with no insulation and drop 2 degrees over an hour, probably less than 1 degree in the time it actually takes to complete...

    Growlerwerks for Homebrew

If you’re looking to impress someone these might be the ticket. For transportability you can’t beat vacuum/double wall stainless thermoses. I’ve stuffed them in with my ski gear and checked them onto planes multiple times and the beer is always ready to pour and still cold when I reach my...

Creating an NA (Or...how I neutered my beer)

So I recently purchased some Wellbeing brews, a bit lifeless but I was overall impressed. I’ve long thought a good NA beer would be great as it would allow me to enjoy more without the negative side effects. The other day I enjoyed a wellbeing while I was finishing up some work around the house...

Beginning brewers - You can start with all grain

Being successful on an all grain batch isn’t being “lucky”. You may be “unlucky” and have really bad water but I think most people have water that’s just fine for brewing most styles. Beyond that there’s literally two additional steps that are pretty simple to grasp and the software that’s...

    Fermentation Vessels

I don't know if it's a "boogyman", I haven't done a side by side comparison for myself to determine if it's noticeable. I do however know that if there is a perceivable difference it's well worth it. Of course everyone's balance point will be different. To the OP, If you like the idea of...

    Gelatin fining question.

How easy is it to get out once there’s a vacuum inside?

Anyone use one of those CO2 tank leak stoppers?

So you replace one Junction with two? That sounds like like a terrible idea. Perfect example of a solution in search of a problem. The flat o rings are cheap to replace and last forever. I’m still using one that came with a used regulator I bought about 10 years ago. Get a wrench and crank down...

    Phosphoric Acid Question

It’s that high because you are adding chalk and baking soda. Drop them and the bicarbonate will go down and you won’t need as much acid. I’m doing an IPA today that’s taking 11ml of 10% to drop the pH to 5.2. Starting from RO.

    Yeast starter bubble over

^this 1,500ml starter in a 2L flask has a 50/50 chance of bubbling over, 1,200 is always good, 2,000 is almost surly always going to bubble over. If you need to make 2L starters either get a 5L flask or step them up.

Can you carbonate in Stainless steel growler.

You aren’t gonna pop the steel, cap design however varies. Most of the ones I’ve seen would hold, not sure about yours.

    Next Step In Continued Improvement

This is probably more accurate. I have two LHBS and both do a fine job, if I think it’s a little coarse I’ll run it through again. Personally I’m probably 500 batches out before I’d save $100 on a slightly finer crush. Not with it for my situation.
