Help/Suggestions on Triple Barrel Big Bad Baptist

Today I had a glass of Triple Barrel Big Bad Baptist by Epic Brewing Co. Being a fan of Porters, Stouts and bourbon barrel beers I found this quite delicious.Their website lists some of the ingredients for the beer and I'm looking at trying to brew this. Would like some ideas on what I could do...

Missing a Good Tasting Stout and Porter on My Recipes. What's Up?

I have my own home system due to the hardness of my well water. Are you saying use 80-90% RO water and only 10-20% well water? Currently my profile is 65% RO.

Missing a Good Tasting Stout and Porter on My Recipes. What's Up?

I removed the Epson salt and looking back shouldn't need it. As for the calcium chloride, my level of Chloride is at 66 so that should be as you suggested. Thanks for your advice. This is quite a change from my previous profile I used.

Missing a Good Tasting Stout and Porter on My Recipes. What's Up?

Well I have been reading as much as I could find in regards to water profiles. I found a great article by Thean Leonard Kruger aka "Kruger_Brewer". Great down to earth reading and makes it understandable. Some articles I read last year you needed a degree in chemistry to understand. After...

Missing a Good Tasting Stout and Porter on My Recipes. What's Up?

When I started all grain people suggested being on a well I should have my water tested so I know what I have. When I got the results back found I have very hard water. My total hardness was 419. That's why I went with an RO system. That made it like working with a clean slate. Now I need to get...

Missing a Good Tasting Stout and Porter on My Recipes. What's Up?

Through my readings last night from this forum there is a sticky on water. In the list of beer profiles it has an oatmeal stout. My calcium is close being 58 with the range they suggest being 50-75. My Mag is only 5 and they recommend 10-30 so I'm a little low and my sulfate is 3 and they...

Missing a Good Tasting Stout and Porter on My Recipes. What's Up?

Thanks. While waiting for replies on this thread I read up on water profiles and it appears that over a year ago when I put in my RO system I got some good advice but not everything I needed. You are correct on what you have said. I also found that I did not enter all the data in the Bru'n Water...

Missing a Good Tasting Stout and Porter on My Recipes. What's Up?

First back when I started using RO water you helped me get the right water chemistry. Thanks. Taking almost a year off felt like starting over. Yes I do take pH readings of my mash and I'm really close when I brew. I only need minor tweaks and my mash pH is at 5.4. With my hard water, to hit...

Missing a Good Tasting Stout and Porter on My Recipes. What's Up?

I've been brewing for about 5 years and graduated up to BIAB all grain brewing in my homemade e-kettle for 2-1/2 years now. My first few batches were ok but found my well water was extremely hard. I installed a RO filter system 2 years ago. I worked with a few members on the site to get my water...

Buffalo Sweat, from Tall Grass Brewing - Please help me put this one together

I taste this beer quite often. My batch is not like the original at all. Same as my first attempt. It's good and drinkable but I want to brew something close to the original. It's missing that coffee finishing flavor. Actually all of my clones for porters and stouts I try are missing that taste...

    Oktoberfest/pumpkin fest

I'm going to brew this. I'm going to reduce the batch to a 5 gallon batch and follow your recipe reducing equally. I'm using mostly RO water due to extremely hard water. Did you use your water or a special water profile? I use a BIAB E kettle and just this April installed a RO System for getting...

    Oktoberfest/pumpkin fest

Did you use an ounce of spice for the entire 10 gallon batch? I may do a five gallon batch and split that. Not sure if I want to do a large batch until I try it first. Not that I doubt it's going to be good just want to give it a try first. Thanks.

    Oktoberfest/pumpkin fest

This is what my daughter has been asking for seeing fall is just around the corner. May do a 10 gallon and split it like you did. What kind of pumpkin spice did you add and how much? Did you add the spice to the secondary and if so how did you sterilize it? Thanks.

    Suspended particles in Secondary

Thanks. Hadn't seen it before and didn't want to bottle if I needed to wait. :ban:

    Suspended particles in Secondary

Ok. I wasn't sure if it is on the sides or throughout the beer. Hard to tell being a stout. I was hoping to bottle soon but didn't want to do that if it was suspended. Thanks.

    Suspended particles in Secondary

On July 18 I brewed a batch of Left Hand Milk Stout. I transferred the beer to a secondary on August 4th. After about 3-4 days I had a good layer of sediment on the bottom of the secondary. It has been clear since then but today after returning home from a vacation I noticed a large layer of...

Still Working on for Numbers for BIAB

You answered perfectly. Thanks for assisting with a great brewing program. Since being all grain brewing with my home built E-kettle BIAB system it seemed over whelming at times but with help from people here and yourself included have made it more understandable. I'm finally knowing what...

Still Working on for Numbers for BIAB

You answered perfectly. Thanks for your help and for assisting with a great program. It's coming together for me and I'm almost sure I now know what I need to take for readings and what they are telling me about my brewing process. It seemed over whelming at times but it's coming together...
