Priming Sugar - measured by weight or volumn

Thanks for the link. I ran across that earlier tonight as well. Cool on being from the area. I've been living in the OP / Olathe area for about 15 years plus now.

1st beer attempt ever....with lots of pics - BIAB

Lucky you! 8 hours, I'm not sure what I would do with my self with that much free time. My wife works evening so I have kid duty during that time. Anything brew related gets started about 9:00pm so it makes for a late night. I did a BIAB last Friday and by the time I got everything cleaned...

    What are you drinking now?

Some random Blueberry Oatmeal Stout my wife's ex husband left behind at the house... ;) Still waiting for my HB to finish conditioning in the bottle.

Priming Sugar - measured by weight or volumn

My first beers always seem to be under carbonated for some reason and I think I have finally found out why. The extract kits would come with 5 oz (weight) of sugar, but I would measure out 5 oz (volume) of sugar and always had plenty left over. So does 5 oz by weight seem reasonable for 5...

    Vinegar to clean?

Thread title says "clean" but the topic changed to "sanitize". Two different things. I did a boil off test the other night in my BK and had mineral deposits that stained the bottom. I used vinegar to remove those deposits in no time at all but made sure I rinsed very well before using for the...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Used this recipe as my first stab at AG / BIAB. I took the original 5 gal recipe and used BeerSmith to scale it down to a 2.5 gal batch. I only have a 5 gal kettle so I did what I could do. :D The only alteration I ended up having to do was I changed the yeast I did - used Safale American dry...

I Wish Someone told me before I started homebrewing...

To get a good, digital thermometer... Just did my first batch of AG (BIAB) and seemed to be guessing at the temp of my mash as measured with my crummy dial thermometer.

Rookie Mistake...airlock o-ring gone!! Advice or alternatives?

Had a similar issue not long ago. I used a couple of the ideas all ready given and added to it. I chewed gum and placed around base of airlock then wrapper plastics sandwich bag around it then taped it. Doing it again I would skip the gum. But being my third batch I over thought the problem.

Headed to Kansas City, where to go?

+1 on Weston. The pub's name is O' Malleys and is in a dug out cellar from many years ago. Really cool place. There is also a small brewery there on site a well named Weston Brewery Company our something like that.

Headed to Kansas City, where to go?

+1 for the Power and Light area. Fun place to hang out in the evenings. I second 75th St Brewery. I haven't been there for awhile but pretty cool place to go. There's also a Granite City on the south side in Olathe if you are in that area. There's a Gordon Bierssh as well out at the Legend's...

    Herman Joseph

Right there wit you. But did bring up memories. Liked HJ back in my college days, before I really knew about beer or styles. :mug: Still was a good beer from what I remember. Might have to try the recipe above.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Pirate Ale

Did anyone figure out the answer to what BJCP style this is? I'm hoping to try this as my next batch ( the AG resipe ). By the way has anyone brewed the AG? Any alterations made?

    Simple BIB small batch method

I am planning on doing a 2.5 gal batch using this method and was thinking of using my 6 gal glass carboy as my primary so I am able to use my plastic fermenter for a 5 gal extract batch shortly thereafter. I seem to be running into an available resource issue... :mug: I assume there is...

    Starting my keezer build... thoughts?

Nice taps, especially the Boulevard one. My home town brewery. Quick question, when opened is there extra support for the lid? Seems like it could be a bit top heavy. Love it though! Looks fanatic!

    Simple BIB small batch method

Also on the paint strainer bags, what's the best way to wash them? I've been thinking of using this method and probably will do for my next batch.

    Range Hood Condensation

I have the same problem myself but have not seen any issues with my brews. I do try and keep it wiped down.

    Amount Bottled

I just bottled another batch last night and got 48 1/2 bottles. There was very little trub in my secondary this time around so I was able to get most out with little sediment.

    Almost forgot most important item...

I've actually been looking into BIAB. I don't have the equipment for anything more, but with what I have I can do smaller batches. I like the idea of being able to try small batches to find what I really like as well as learn more about the finer points of brewing. Then slowly start acquiring...
