    Do you mean phenolic?

    Saison Cottage House Saison

This was my first saison so I wanted to strip it of any spices or anything like that and see how it tastes on its own. I'd like to brew it again if it turns out well and introduce some fruit. I can't wait to get it kegged and carbonated.

    Water Report help needed please

Hi Martin, Would be interested in your thoughts on the report I just got as well. Seems like it is fine for brewing and will need the typical adjustments and acid. I'm just starting to look at the water. At this point have only been using Campden to remove the Chlorine / Chloramine. pH...

How Long Is Too Long In the Fermenter?

What's the benefit of doing this prior to final gravity? Also do you rack to the keg and let it sit at room temp pressurized and treat the keg as a secondary type vessel?

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

I'm considering building a stand with the strut material and currently use the 10 gallon coolers for mash and HLT. Just wondering what experiences people have had with a burner mounted to the stand and the heat impact to the plastic coolers.

    Weyerbacher Imperial pumpkin clone

As we're approaching fall I'd like to try and brew something similar to Imperial Pumpkin for my first pumpkin beer. I'm local to Easton where Weyerbacher is located. Has anyone had any success brewing something similar?

@arcorey can you provide the dimensions of your stand? I like the layout of it.

    Saison Cottage House Saison

I'm going to brew this on Saturday. Will be the first beer I enter into a competition. Scaled down the grain bill to get to a 1.050 OG and not going to use any honey. Also using a bit of Magnum to bitter and East Kent Goldings at the end of the boil. I tried going through the 201 pages but it's...

    CO2 leak in keezer?

I'm thinking I found the culprit being the gas QDs. I have 3 kegs right now. I took each QD off and put it into a pitcher of StarSan. Two of the three would spit out some small bubbles from what appears to be inside the QD where it goes over the post on the keg. The hoses all appear tight and...

Do you need a 1 off Stainless part built for your system? Let's discuss it.

Was thinking recently about a stainless steel valve solution for a Fermonster. The plastic is so thin it's probably difficult to replace the plastic spigot for the ported versions but would help in terms of sanitation. Any ideas?

Wyeast 3522 Belgian Ardennes + Fusels

Thanks for all the responses! I'll have to look at that. I never actually separated the body of the spigot but have loosened the plastic nut and washers to remove the spigot and clean everything. I use tap water and the only treatment that I've done thus far in my brewing is using...

Wyeast 3522 Belgian Ardennes + Fusels

Pitched on Saturday 7/1 and kegged Sunday 7/16. So right around two weeks. Active fermentation was done within 3-4 days based on gravity reading. First reading I took was with both a refractometer and a hydrometer (first use of the refractometer) and both came out to 1.008. Didn't move from...

Wyeast 3522 Belgian Ardennes + Fusels

Haha, my wife described it as smelling specifically like our dog's sh!t. I haven't had many Brett beers but had one over the weekend prior to trying this and the smell reminds me of that a bit. I'm going to look to pick up a Brett beer on the way home today to compare it to. Funky smell that did...

Wyeast 3522 Belgian Ardennes + Fusels

I am using a ported Fermonster so the taste that I took was the first 4 oz of the bottom of the fermenter. It has a bit of a rough smell to it as well. I kegged it and burst carbonated for a day and a half. Took a sample pour last night just to try and the smell was overwhelming. The taste isn't...

Wyeast 3522 Belgian Ardennes + Fusels

Question: Has anyone had a similar experience with fusel alcohol flavors coming through even through temp control was set in the mid 60's? I think my issue was pitching the yeast at too high a temp due to very long time chilling wort after the boil. See process below: I just kegged my...

    New England road trip

My wife and I are looking to plan a short road trip up through New England from PA. Only planning on stopping in Newport, RI, Boston, MA and Portland, ME. Would like to stop at Trillium and Maine Beer Co at a minimum. Anyone have advice on must visit breweries? We will likely only be able to...

    Efficiency crazy higher than expected

I had a similar experience with my second AG batch where I had calculated a 98% efficiency in Beersmith. Turns out it was because I didn't mix the first runnings with the sparge wort when taking the sample out of the ball valve at the bottom of the kettle. Did you stir the kettle to mix prior to...

    CO2 leak in keezer?

I did do the regulator check and didn't notice anything unusual. When you say the gas out posts just put the gas QDs in water? The CO2 tank is in the kegerator. I checked the nut and made sure it is tight. It's a Taprite dual primary regulator.
