Tap water vs boiled vs bottled?

You ever have a fish tank? They say you should let water breathe overnight. Idk man, my dad did it fish tanks when I was a kid, so I do now. They old man at work who got me brewing lets his Lake Michigan tap water. So I do the same. Just the way this 25 year old brews his beer. Might not be the...

Tap water vs boiled vs bottled?

Honestly, I fill 5 gallon water jugs a few days before I brew and leave the caps off in my garage anti let them "breathe". It's how I was taught, and it's always worked for me. Im sure there are better ways to get water, but I find it hard to believe breweries are using RO or boiled water to...

Sometimes my own "Beer Snobbery" is frustrating to me...

I think you may never know. Sad, sounds like a hell of a beer. Upon further investigation at my bar, they had lines crossed.

Sometimes my own "Beer Snobbery" is frustrating to me...

Haha, this happened to me not 3 weeks ago. I got a wheat ale from Goose Island (312) at the local bar. It was CLEARLY Coors light. I knew the bartender and started giving her crap for pouring the wrong beer. She got defensive, mad even. I set up a taste comparison with a bottle of 312, a bottle...

Help with hop schedule in American Amber

I've never had any luck with 30 minute additions. They always seem to be a no mans land. If you want more aroma, focus on your 20 minute to FO additions. As far as bitterness, you fall within the BJCP guidelines for an APA.

Fermenter krausen came out of carboy.

Happens to the best of us. RDWHAHB. Invest in a blow off tube. I use one for all my primary and a bubbler for any secondary.

Bananas Foster Creamy Ale (All Grain) **pic intensive**

One question though, as I'm a better drinker than a chef. How do you split a vanilla bean/where can I buy them?

    Your worst brew ever.

Very first beer I brewed was Brewers Best "Pumpkin Spiced Porter". It came with a packet of spices that made my garage smell amazing. Sadly, the beer tasted like a coriander, nutmeg, all spice smoothie. It was aweful. A year later I dumped the last of it. The packet looked like a little much, I...

    2 L Soda Bottles

I'm not too sure about bottling in a 2L, but you can put kegged beer in one. They make these screw on caps (your local HB store might have them) that screw on to the bottle after you fill it and give it a little bit of co2. Works nicely for holding pressure for a bit and taking beer to friends...

    The One

I've got an all Citra hopped APA that I can't keep on tap. I buy all my Citra hops at one time when they become available so I can make it through out the year.

    Mega Brew Day - Tips/Suggestions?

Just a few weeks ago I pulled this off. While I was heating my strike water I was removing labels off bottles. In all honesty that took me well into the boil because of super sticky labels. After the wort had cooled I was washing those two cases of bottles while making a priming sugar. Rack to...

    Quinoa Flakes??

A friend of mine has a still and has a bunch of Quinoa Flakes. Does anyone know of any way I could use them in a beer recipe? They are almost a dry oatmeal type flake.
