Aw shucks. It looked so familiar. I even have that picture... Coimbra is pretty amazing.

Yes! Right on the Lithuanian border with the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad. Nida has beautiful beaches and sand dunes, and was an area formerly restricted to the Soviet higher-ups. These weathervanes go back to when this area was part of East Prussia, which Germany lost to Poland and the Soviet...

Not Preila (not Prella either), but you’re very much on the right track, @D.B.Moody. Try again, please.

That was *not* cheating. But fair enough. Here I go:

(Reminds self to check signs for easy clues) Yes. And not a decoy. Ankara castle and citadel, Turkey. Which apparently wants to be called Türkiye as of this week. This is from another memorable work meeting, in 2019, in innocent, pre-pandemic times.

In 2014 I was at a two-day work meeting in Dublin Castle that ended with a memorable reception and after-hours tour.

I would say that this is Dublin Castle. Fond memories.

That’s strange. I googled “pink hotel California” and La Valencia hotel in La Jolla, which I didn’t know, came up quite prominently. I could be wrong, but this looks like the place.

It says “Willow Tree Gallery” on a store sign. There’s one with that name in Knoxville, TN, but it doesn’t look like that. So I’ll go with Willow Tree, California.

That does indeed look like the Cantamar Lighthouse in Primo Tapia, Playas de Rosarito, BC. It helped to google “lighthouse” in Spanish (“faro”) for positive identification. I’d say @cmac62 got it first.

And the pepper is named after the Mexican state. In any case, it’s a name in the public domain that is trademarked by a company, and you could get sued for making sauce from tabasco peppers and calling it, rather appropriately, tabasco sauce. Kind of reminds me of the great recent story of the...

You got it, @bruce_the_loon. A slightly-off-the-beaten-path tourist attraction, not far from Mexico City, in the Puebla District, definitely worth a day trip, for the pyramids and the amazing churches. And, alongside Tabasco, another place name appropriated and trademarked by a gringo company...

Not Central America but yes, Mexico, though nowhere near the pacific coast. Will hold any clues for now, other than saying that it was the name of the Spanish castle that reminded me of this Mexican town.

A 2016 trip. No herrings, decoys or false flags here. Some clues.

Maputo, Mozambique. The lettering on the side, barely distinguishable, gives it away. It reads “A Linha Portuguesa.” It is the former office building in Maputo of the Portuguese airlines, TAP. It is known as the Montepio building, named after the Bank that also occupied the premises.
