Just Remembered I Messed Up While Bottling!

Hey Guys, The other day I bottled a partial-mash IPA and forgot to boil the priming sugar before adding it to the bottling bucket. I just dumped it in and added the brew. How much wil this kill the beer when its ready to be had? I fugure best case scenario is each bottle will be...

    Bucket or carboy for primary?

I personally prefer the glass carboy. I think you miss alot of the fermentation with plastic. I think you'll be amazed at the amount of activity below the krausen a glass carboy allows you to see, and the plastic in turn robs you of.

    Ready to bottle??

Hey guys, I have a partial mash IPA which I brewed 4 weeks ago today. It was in the primary for 2 weeks then in the secondary for an additional 2. When I transferred it to the secondary, it was good to go. There was really no activity and most of the krausen had fallen. I noticed some...

    Evaporation in boiling wort

Hey Guys- The recipes I typically get make 5 gals. Do you guys ever take evaporation and the liquid that is lost during the 1-1.5 hr boil time into consideration? Is this something that could effect the fg of the brew? Thanks- Bob

Fruity Smell in Primary & Secondary

Hey Guys, I am brewing a mini-mash version of an IPA recipe I got from Austin Homebrew. I racked it to the secondary last week and noticed a strong fruit scent from the carboy. Is this normal with an IPA? I checked it again yesterday and the fruit scent, although a bit lighter, was still...

    Two Questions concerning home brews

If you're looking for a simple, inexpensive kit you can get them at any homebrew store or online for less than $100. I am so happy with the one I got (Deluxe Starter from Northern Brewer http://www.northernbrewer.com/starterkits.html ) and have brewed two batches with it already. I decided to...

    blowoff Tube

Hey Guys, I woke up this morning to a nice surprise. My airlock was full of yeast! I know this is a good thing, and I attached the airlock. Due to my inexperience however, I only placed the other half into a pot, without water. I think I can put the airlock in again, as things have calmed...

    Successful Starter

Hey Guys, I have recently posted a number of threads with questions I had about making and dealing with yeast starters. I made a mini-mash version of an IPA yesterday and ended up pitching the starter into the wort at about 10:00 last night. I woke up this morning at 6 and the IPA is...

    Fuller's London Porter

Hey Guys, Yesterday I tried a great beer for the first time on tap. Its was Fuller's London Porter. It was absolutely the best porter I have ever had. If you are a fan of Guinness, this will blow you away. If you get a chance, I highly recommend it! I liked it so much I am prdering the...

Dump entire contents of starter into the primary?

Thanks for the response! Is "high krausen" when the airlock is the most active, or whne the krausen is at its thickest?

Dump entire contents of starter into the primary?

I made my first starter about 6 hours ago and i am already getting nice activity out of the airlock. I have the starter in a 1/2 gallon growler. Should I just dump all of the contents (liquid included) into the primary? I have seen people talking about dumping the liquid out first, then...

LAck of carbonation after 1 week in bottle

I did add priming sugar when I bottled. My house is typically kept on the cool side (as this is early spring in New England) maybe in the mid-low 60's. I will "sample" another bottle next week. Thanks guys.

LAck of carbonation after 1 week in bottle

Hey Guys, I just opened and tried a bottle of my first brew I bottled last week. There was really no carbonation in the brew, although some gas did release when I opened the bottle. The directions I have say to allow for 3 weeks of conditioning. Does carbonation usually not start until...

    Light DME for the starter?

Thanks guys, I guess my last question is, how long do you allow the starter to "start"? It typically takes 1-2 weeks for krausen to fall in a primary. Does it take less time in a starter since there's less fermentable sugar?

    Light DME for the starter?

Thanks for the response. What do you mean, decant as much liquid off of the yeast cake? I have never done a starter before. Does liquid form on top of the Krausen, or do you pour the liquid from below it out first? Thank you!

    Light DME for the starter?

Hey Guys, I just went to the local HBS and intended to pick up some DME for my starter. I picked up the light version because I fugured it would affect the taste and cloer of my IPA less. How do you guys feel about that? Did I make the right choice?

    Bottling first brew now

I am kind of embarassed to admit this, but I did have a bottling bucket, complete with spigot. It was late and I had a few Sierra Nevadas in me...So again, the brew's on me!

    Bottling first brew now

sorry guys, that was just the dumbest question I have ever asked in my life. If you read that question, that was 5 seconds of your life that I just wasted and you will never get back. If you're ever in the Boston area, I owe you a cold one!

    Bottling first brew now

Hey Guys, I am about to start bottling my first brew now. I might be thinking too deep into this, but after I add the brew from the secondary into the bottling bucket, should I siphone from the top of the bucket or the bottom. This sounds weird, I know...but I am having visions of...
