2nd all grain in the fermenter

Great job! Don't forget to leave it alone now for a few weeks and you'll have a great beer I'm sure.

    Planting and Storing Rhizome Question

I have mine in ziplocs (fridge)just a bit of water to keep moist and the bag not sealed all the way to let some air in. Planted one of the cacade rhizomes in a small pot 10 days ago and it's thriving, 2 shoots and 1 is about 2-3" tall. I planted it vertical.

Noob Concern - should I cool down my primary fermentation?

Excellent advice, I'm going to brew my 4th batch this weekend and I've made mistakes on the first 3 mostly fermentation temps.

    Mint (anti-aphid)

I've seen aphids on mint so I wouldn't trust that approach, the most natural way to get rid of these pests is ladybugs. You can buy them from your local gardening store. 4 or 5 bucks for 1000 ladybugs last time I bought I believe, follow instructions for releasing them, if you have aphids...

    no chill method

Thinking about trying this. What are the pros and cons. Where can you buy the jerry containers locally (walmart, ace, lowes etc.)? Thanks for any info/advice.:mug:

    Ingredients for recipe question

Thanks, IBU's would be in the mid to high 20's if I remember right, where do you want your IBU's to be in an average brew? I have 2 ounces of Chinook whole and 6 ounces of Liberty pellets on the way, so any advice would be appreciated. Looks like brewing is part art and part science (best way I...

    Active Fermentation stopped suddenly. Bad?

Just leave it alone, hopefully you sanitized your airlock before putting back in the fermenter. Next time use a blowoff tube, I learned that lesson on my first batch also. 2-3 days of active fermentation is normal but the beer is slowly fermenting after that. Let it sit for 17 days or so and...

    FYI free food grade buckets

Yes, I get 5 gallon food grade buckets from my local grocery bakery shop, they contained corn syrup. Bucket, metal handle with lid and gasket for $1. Plus they run them thru their dishwasher so they are fairly clean when you get them. Grommet and air lock cost me $1.30 so I've got a nice 4 gallon...

    Ingredients for recipe question

Thank you, I was thinking along the same lines. Although I was going to add the LME at the start of the boil, and honey after the boil, may have to rethink this. Hops dead on at 60min cascade and 10min Willamette. Could get some more hops before I brew, what would you suggest?

    Sparge? Yes or No

Spring water at Walmart is .88 cents a gallon and is UV sterilized I believe.

    Ingredients for recipe question

Here's what I have as far as ingredients, I want to make a 6 gallon batch BIAB. 10 lbs. American 2 row pale Great Western 3 lbs. Amber LME 1 lb. Clover honey .5 lb. Quaker oats (toasted) 1 oz. Cascade pellets 1 oz. Willamette pellets 1 pkg. Nottingham yeast Any comments, suggestions...

First attempt at BIAB - too much?

You could go to Walmart and get a voile window panel for less than 5 bucks and then sew up a bag to fit your pot,if you know someone with a sewing machine. You would probably have enough material in that one panel to make 3 bags custom fit to your kettle.

    Drilling holes in bucket lid

I've got some standard size grommets coming in the mail today from my brew supplier. What size drill bit do I use to drill the hole in the bucket lid? Making 2 fermenters on the cheap. Thanks!

    Newbie's first brew.

Nice! Do 3 weeks on the yeast, you won't regret it.

    Good Beer Bottles To Use

Are you serious? I like the red hook bottles, good beer and nice solid retro bottles. Don't dump beer, I think that's against one of the ten commandments.

    Fermentation stopped too soon!

+1 Leave it on the yeast for at least 3 weeks. Test gravity then, patience makes good beer.

    Brew software beat to death

Thanks everyone, I'm still playing around with beer smith with the trial version. I think I need more experience and knowledge brewing before I would spend the money to buy the software. I'll give brewtarget a shot, it looks a little simpler to understand.
