    Old Kit still good?

I'd give it a try, why not if it's canned extract. Check the yeast pack for expiration date, if it's expired I'd invest in a new package of yeast, maybe some fresh hops also.

    Using Dishwasher to sanitize?

I'd just soak in oxyclean for 2 hours max. If you leave them overnight you will get some white residue on the bottles especially if you have hard water.

    Amber all malt

Brewed an amber all malt extract kit. Let it sit in the primary 4 weeks and bottled. After 10 days in the bottle I wanted to see if I was getting carbonation and wanted to sneak a taste. Well it was carbed with a decent head, nice color and clear, I tasted it and it was on the bitter side. I'm...

Saw this deal on pots, thought I'd pass it on

Thanks for the explanation Wayne, shouldn't be a problem should it? Just found this: "Anodizing is accomplished by immersing the aluminum into an acid electrolyte bath and passing an electric current through the medium. A cathode is mounted to the inside of the anodizing tank; the aluminum...

Saw this deal on pots, thought I'd pass it on

I don't know what they mean by nonstick mine is just a regular brushed aluminum pot, no teflon inside. I seasoned it to put a nice layer of oxide down and have made 3 batches with it, no problems. These are also thicker gauge than your basic turkey fryer pot.

Saw this deal on pots, thought I'd pass it on

Just saw this, I've got the 13 gallon pot with lid and steamer and it's a pretty decent brewpot. Looks like you get a 13 gal., 10 gal., 8 gal., 6 gal. and 5 gal. all with lids and steamer plates for $116.98 shipped. Seemed pretty decent to me and if I wasn't so cash strapped from having to pay...

What's the difference between corn sugar and powdered sugar? Looked at ingredients of powdered sugar and it was sugar and cornstarch.

    Question: Starting Hops in Container

Yes, sprouts pointing upwards, I did a cascade like this and it sprouted in a week. I want to get some of those pots to start my others so I don't have to worry about disturbing the roots when I transplant outdoors, how much were they?

    Question: Starting Hops in Container

Are you planting vertically or horizontally? Will they fit vertically?

I may not be cut out for this all-grain business

Don't give up on all grain. My first suggestion would be to get a bigger pot. You can look around at yard sales, thrift shops, craiglist etc. and get a darn good deal sometimes,if money is an issue, try to get at least a 10 gallon pot. Then you can do 5 and 6 gallon batches easy with the BIAB...

Bottled my first batch tonight... Some questions.

Let it sit on the yeast 3 weeks and the yeast cake will be a bit more solid at the bottom and you can get most all of your beer out of the fermenter just tip it as you get to the last of the batch. Also if you move your fermenter before you transfer let it sit for awhile to let things settle...

    Cherry beer recommendations?

A cherry wheat gets my vote! I don't know how the tart cherries would work though. I have tart and sweet cherry trees in my yard. I think the wife uses the tart cherries for baking and the sweet for just plain eating.

    does this look infected #65677847765

You shouldn't need a brush, especially one used for cleaning your dishes. All my cleaning supplies, sponges etc. are strictly for my brewing, nothing else like washing dishes, floors, counters or any other general use. Good luck on your next batch.

    Help with increasing mash efficiency

I mash 60-70 minutes when I BIAB. My efficiency is around 75-76%. Try a longer mash time.

    Thinking making the switch

I started with BIAB and the only extra equipment I needed was the bag. Went to walmart and got a voile window curtain for like $4.50 and my wife sewed together 2 bags with material leftover, I've got a 52 quart pot. I get my 2 row pale for .72 a lb. ($30.00 for a 50 lb. sack) and fresh LME for...
