    Spike Solo Owner's Thread

I've already sent Spike an email asking for advice, but I thought I would ask everyone here in case someone might know what is going on. My Solo+ system arrived today. I had my electrician friend over to install the 240 circuit to run the system. I have a shed that I am brewing in that has a...

    Spike Solo Owner's Thread

I'm joining the Spike Solo+ 20 gal. club as of this morning. Looking forward to reading through this thread again and learning all I can before my system arrives.

    Gose-How Much Salt?

Thanks for that info. That's 13.75 grams for a 5.5 gallon batch which is 0.49 oz. So that supports my thoughts of reducing my sea salt addition down to 1/2 oz.

    Gose-How Much Salt?

I know this is an old thread, but I'll add my experience. I brewed a lemongrass Gose last year that was around 4.5% and I added 1oz at 5 mins and this beer won 3 straight 1st places in competitions. I brewed the beer again last month and had some issues with my efficiency and the beer only came...

I have Carolina Water in the Oak Grove area. Here is my report. And I absolutely make adjustments with every brew using Bru'n water.

    First attempt at lagering

I brewed an Oktoberfest using the same yeast. I have a tilt hydrometer in my bucket, so I get real time gravity and temp readings. I pitched a 1.8L starter of wlp830 on Tuesday night at 11:30 with the temp at 58° it was down to my fermenting temp of 50° by morning. It started taking off within...

I want a new kettle also. And a HLT. And a conical fermenter. And a nice brew stand to put them on. And a brew shed to house all of them. The brew shed is coming. I have the money saved and put aside. A friend is going to be helping me build it. He is putting together a materials list for me. I...

He does. That's what I do. I run the starter for 2 days and then separate it into pint jars. I then crash it in the fridge and leave it like that until I am ready to pitch it or create another starter. TL decants his after crashing and puts the slurry into vials for storage. I assume he does...

Yes, sorry Billion cells. I only stepped up this starter because it was such a big beer. If I would have only done the 2L starter I would only have enough for the brew and not enough to harvest. I just store in pint mason jars. Won't ever have more than a couple and there is a drawer in my...

A little late to this conversation, but we recently brewed a RIS using WLP090. OG was 1.093 and it dropped down to 1.026 in 4 days. Temp was 67°. It stayed there for 2 days and I bumped the temp up to 71° and also gave the yeast a bit of a rousing by using a long spoon and gently stiring the...

You get access to it once you join the club. $20 a year and you get monthly meetings, a shirt, a tasting glass, a discount at DIY on supplies (that can pay for the membership on its own). You can get a PSB discount at Angry Fish Brewing, those guys are club members. It's worth it.

Tilt Hydrometer and Temp Control (ITC 308)

I do the same thing with my probe. I didn't have any foam laying around but I had tons of old foam koosies. I tore out the bottom, cut it in open and I insulate my probe with that. Works great.

It looks like I will probably move from bottling to kegging pretty soon. I need to start reading up on kegging and all the needed equipment. I would appreciate some tips and things to look out for. I have a side by side refrigerator in my garage that I will probably add a couple of taps to. I...

Not necessarily termites. There are flying ants that look like termites that are out this time of year. Look at their antenna. The ants have hinged antenna and termites are straight. I get some of the ants every year

    NB Big Mouth Bubbler

I have the big mouth bubbler with the new lid. Since I am constantly spraying with star San, I never let the lid completely dry which does in fact cause it to lift. I solved the problem by going down to our local play it again sports and bought a couple used 10 lb bar bells weights. I place 1...
