    Carapils base......

Quick update, it is fermenting, enough to pop the lid off a bucket once the airlock plugged up, smells bizzare, almost breadlike. I'm not wasting any hops on dry hopping but it should at least have some alcohol in it. I'll let it sit another month and keg it.

Where to get silicone tubing and cam locks....fast!

Yup, seems all were three days to Ohio, I needed two :)

Where to get silicone tubing and cam locks....fast!

Thought about it, but between working for the man and getting kids to and from daycare/friends houses, I have zero time for errands. Spent my lunch hour grinding grains :) I doubt they would've had the cam locks anyway.

Thanks. Derrin from Brewers Hardware is going to hook me up.

Where to get silicone tubing and cam locks....fast!

I'm upgrading the rig with a plate chiller finally, but never did order my hoses and connections for it. We want to Brew Sunday and I cannot find anything locally or close to Ohio for shipping. Any ideas/reccomendations? Most of the stores do not have an expidted option and are 3 days out.

    March pump questions

Make sure the output is up so you can bleed the air out of the pump. The input plumbing should be bigger than the output and keep the pump as low as possible. This contributes to increased head pressure to keep it pumping. If you have a pressure control valve, make sure it's on the output side.

    Carapils base......

Yup, it was carapils. His thought behind it was to offset the strong alcohol taste he has gotten in the past brewing with potatoes. In the end we just decided F it and just go with it. I haven't a clue how it will turn out, I'll be pleased if it's even somewhat drinkable. If not, I know...

    Carapils base......

So, he showed up today with 9 lbs of shredded potatoes, 5 lbs of pears, 1 lb of starwberries, 3 lbs of bluberries, and 3/4 cup of green tea stuff. I'm in no position to argue/talk about his additions so we went with it. Should be interesting.....Talked him down a bit on the carpils though...

    Carapils base......

LOL, thought about it, LHBS was closed though. My other buddy and I will still be brewing, this was a 2nd brew for the day. I didn't think there was any saving this one. We brew monthly anyway. I'll just give him a call in the AM. I broke the rules by looking, but it will save some time...

    Carapils base......

So, we decided to do a group brew where we each handle a different aspect of the brew (mash, hops/boil, yeast/fermentation). The catch is that we don't know what the others are doing. We invited a buddy to join us, he picked up his grains yesterday and left them in my truck. I cheated and...

    Best All Grain day EVER!

I have those same burners as well with a 20 PSI regulator, I can maintain a nice 12 gallon boil with the valve throttled way down.

    March or Chugger Pump?

I'm still using the same chugger I posted about on here about a year ago. Two sessions a month, runs constantly during filling, mashing (90 min) and sparging and have had zero motor issues. We did a marathon brew day of three batches, I don't think the pump got a break all day. I've...

    IPA Recipe Recommendation

After 15 gallons of so so brews and 5 gallons of terrible, can someone reccomend a light hoppy brew recipe? The previous batches were all attempts to create my own recipe, not totally surprised they sucked. I'm all grain on a HERMS system. I made this a few times and it was good, but a bit...

HERMS Mashng - Grain bed under water

Thanks. When batch sparging, do you recirculate your second batch of sparge water before draining into the boil kettle, or do you add the water and go?

    Check My Recipe

You guys were dead on, the beer is underpowered with a funk to it. Close to the worst beer I've brewed since I started. Drinkable and good enough for band practice drinking. It was a little sweet and not bitter enough as BigEd predicted. I've since added a return mash thermometer to...

HERMS Mashng - Grain bed under water

New to HERMS. When I am mashing, I assume I need to keep the grain bed under water while recirculating? Add the stike water and then a little more to keep up with the absorbtion in the grain? I currently fly sparge, if I switch to batch to control ph issues, then I just need to calculate...
