    Lagering cider?

When ferm starts I lower my fridge to a couple degrees above min recommended yeast temp until ferm is done. Then raise the temp to about 62 for a couple days. After that I lower the temp around 5 degrees a day until it gets to 35F and let it sit for weeks. Usually at least 6 but some I've gone...

    Wierd carb sediment

Looks strange to me. Beer is sourish and this is what the bottom sediment looks like. Went low on co2 vols, its being an old ale and all. Lookin for some vet advice. Thanks to all for your time.

    Lagering cider?

Am making a couple different batches of my "proven" "decent" cider recipe but with different yeasts. 2 are using lager yeasts but I was wondering if lagering a cider has any effect or am I just waste time (and thus valuable carboy space.) thanks for the time if you cider makers out there.

    Dirty things

Thanks. Had an infection and have pin pointed the culprit but a little too late for my new ferm bucket and new airlocks. Was just wondering if they still be of brewing use or if their destiny is to be manure bucket and/or trash bound.

    Dirty things

I have a bucket and a couple airlocks that I am 90% sure are infected. So A: if I were to make a sanstar solution in the bucket would it transfer infection to anything I cleaned with it? And B: is there anyway to get these airlocks back in working condition, is it worth the time?

    carbing all-brett?

You should be fine as long as you add some priming sugar assuming the fermentation hasn't completely stopped.

    4th sour batch help!

They sit all night. Drain them during mash and give them the spray minutes before boil is done. I use fresh water in the airlocks but am thinking about switching to a Sanstar solution. Dump the kettle, only valves I use are tun and bottling bucket. Both usually sit in sanstar until time for use...

    4th sour batch help!

Yes I do vorlof. Not quite sure all is good up to bottling. I usually just dump into the fermenter and splash it around a bit. Fermenter cleaning is pretty much the same as everything else. I hand scrub the inside under hot water then let sanstar soak for a night, then drain and depending on how...

    4th sour batch help!

Use sanstar and bleach if possible. I have a copper coil for chilling. I soak it in sanstar the night before. Give it a spray before going in and a rinse and soak after its been used. I did rack into a glass carboy I had but I bleached and sanstar it the days leading up. Didn't think an...

    4th sour batch help!

So I've replaced all my fermenters, all new tubing, and even use nirvana bottled water for mash and sparge and STILL sour batch. I heard it shouldn't matter but could it be my tun or manifold is bad? I've since built a new tun but just transported the manifold. Anything at all, please!

    Quick question about boil!

Should be good. Had the same problem last September with a brown ale. Finished sparging around 5 and got back around 9 or 10 and finished. Batch was fine. Just keep it covered and you'll be good.....oh, and the same for the wort ;)

    Glass carboy sanitize

So I had a bacterial infection that was in my ferm buckets. I got rid of them and bought a new one but I did rack infected beer into my glass carboy when I didn't know I had the infection. I cleaned it with bleach and sanstar but I don't know if its good now or if I should abandon that too. It's...

    Making a new copper manifold

She's a beaut. Appreciate the offer but went out and made a new tun yesterday. If anybody is interested the whole sand thing worked perfectly. Capped it, bent it around a post and sliced it. Definitely would recommend it.

    Making a new copper manifold

Awesome. Looks like a trip to the Home Depot tomorrow. No worries. To each his own. I started with that (Internet version, don't know if there is a paper version) and other things I read all pointed to circular. I might just dish out the extra cash and convert my old one to rectangular. 80-90%...

    Making a new copper manifold

Is it one like this: http://www.igloo-store.com/detail/IGL+5G+YELLOW Or like this: http://www.igloo-store.com/detail/IGL+52QT+FAMILY+BL Like I said I use the first link. I've read on building them and everything says that a square manifold in a circular tun leads to poor efficiency. Not...

So it's about that time to start the garden and I wanna grow sugar pumpkins for my pride and joy "heavy pumpkin" ale. Never grown them before so was wondering if anybody has and any tips for growing them specifically for brewing. Thanks.
